INTRODUCTION
In the 1950s the school of linguistic thought known
as transformational-generative grammar received
wide acclaim through the works of Noam Chomsky .
Chomsky postulated a syntactic base of language
(called deep structure), which consists of a series of
phrase-structure rewrite rules, i.e., a series of
(possibly universal) rules that generates the
underlying phrase-structure of a sentence, and a
series of rules (called transformations) that act upon
the phrase-structure to form more complex
sentences. The end result of a transformational-
generative grammar is a surface structure that, after
the addition of words and pronunciations, is
identical to an actual sentence of a language. All
languages have the same deep structure, but they
differ from each other in surface structure because of
the application of different rules for transformations,
pronunciation, and word insertion. Another
important distinction made in transformational-
generative grammar is the difference between
language competence (the subconscious control of a
linguistic system) and language performance (the
speaker's actual use of language). Although the first
work done in transformational-generative grammar
was syntactic, later studies have applied the theory
to the phonological and semantic components of
language

DEFINITION ;
A generative grammar , in the sense
in which Noam Chomsky used the term ,is a rule
system formalized with mathematical precision that
generates , without need of any information that is
not represented explicitly in the system , the
grammatical sentences of the language is describes ,
or characterizes, and assigns to each sentence a
structural description, or grammatical analysis. All
the concepts introduce in the definition of generative
grammar will be explained and exemplified in the
course of this section. Generative grammars fall into
several types; this exposition is concerned mainly
with the type known as transformational or more
fully transformational generative . Transformational
grammar was initiated by Harris in the course of
work on what he called discourse analysis . It was
father developed and given somewhat different
theoretical bases by Chomsky.
Transformational generative grammar is a set of
grammar rules that are used when basic clause are
combine to form more complex sentences.
A system of linguistic analysis consisting of set of
rules that generate basic syntactic structure in the
form of simple independent clause and a set of
transformational rules that operates of those
structure to produce question complex sentences and
thus to account for every possible sentence of a
language.
LANGUAGE ACQUISITIONS DEVICE:
The lad is a part of Chomsky acquisition hypotheses
The lad is a system of principle that children are
born with that helps them learn language and
accounts for the order in which children learn
structure and the mistakes as they learn.
Second language learning theory proposes that
acquisition is possible in second and subsequent
language and that learning programs have to crate
the condition for it.
NATIVE SPEAKER:
Use it to explain language creativity how we are able
to alter and interpret sentence we are not hear before
creativity is made possible by the generative nature
of transformation grammar in order to create and
understand newly generate sentences we must
depend of our language competence.
Phrase structure component:
Phase structure rule consist of a set of rule each rule
having a symbol on the left connected on the left
connected by an arrow to one or more symbols on
the right the arrow can be interpreted as an
instruction to rewrite the symbol appear on the left
as the symbol or string of symbols that appears to
the right of arrow.
USAGE :
Transformational grammar assigns a deep structure
and a surface structure to show the relationship of
sentences.
