Project Grace
Project Grace
I . TITLE:
Project GRACE (Generating Resources Towards Improved Learning Outcomes).
Based from the School Improvement Plan (SIP), one of the identified Priority Improvement
Areas (PIA) is the low achievement rate of the grade II pupils as was shown in the pre-conduct of the PHIL-
IRI which is 21 out of 28 have a very poor reading comprehension. This is related to poor reading
comprehension of pupils and lack of instructional initiatives for pupils’ performance as appeared in the root
cause analysis. Based on the observations made, reading habit was not inculcated at home thus, there is a need
to accentuate its value in school to develop positive behavior of learners towards reading.
According to Francis Bacon, reading maketh a full man. Yet, many learners are very poor in
reading comprehension.
Similarly, reading is an interactive process between readers and texts that result in reading
fluency (Grabe (1991 as cited in Alyousef 2005). The reader must understand the text in order to grasp its
meaning. Comprehension comes while reading. Therefore, the proponent wants to toughen the learners’
capacity to improve their reading comprehension through this project GRACE.
