Prism Compressive Strength Prism Testing - C1314: F E F E F E

This document provides information on determining the compressive strength of masonry from prism testing according to ASTM C1314. It outlines the steps for building and testing masonry prisms, including allowing the prisms to cure before testing. It also provides tables to determine the required net compressive strength of clay and concrete masonry units based on the specified compressive strength (f'm) of the masonry and the type of mortar used.

Prism Compressive Strength Prism Testing - C1314

Compressive strength: 1. Build 2-unit high stack bond prism. Can be half units.
Designer states compressive strength, f′m. Compliance is verified by either: 2. Prism is sealed in moisture-tight bag until 2 days before testing.
A. Prism testing (ASTM C1314): Two unit high prism with full bedding 3. Grouting (if performed) is done between 24 and 48 hours after prism
construction.
B. Unit strength method: Spec Table 1 and Table 2
4. Do not disturb or move prisms for first 48 hours. Strap or clamp
prisms during transport.
