Lesson Plan in Contemporary Arts

This lesson plan introduces students to contemporary art forms from various regions of the Philippines. Students will be grouped and research art forms like visual arts, architecture, literature, theatre, dance, and music within four traditions: ethnic, Spanish colonial, American colonial, and contemporary. They will analyze and compare differences between contemporary and modern art, as well as how indigenous art changed under Spanish rule. The importance of understanding diverse contemporary art forms will also be discussed.

I. OBJECTIVE:
Identifies various contemporary art forms and their practices from the various
regions. CAR11/12IAC-0a-1

II. CONTENT AND MATERIALS:


Subject Matter: Contemporary Art Forms
Reference: Sandagan, Luviminda D.and Sayseng, Ayesha H., Contemporary Philippine Art
from the Regions, JFS Publishing Services,Manila., pp.2-6.
Materials: CG, book, laptop

III. PROCEDURE:
A. Review:
What are the indigenous art of our ancestors during Prehistoric Period, Historic
Period or Ethnic Tradition? Give one.
B. Motivation:
The teacher will let the students discover the words behind the jumbled letters.

C. Activity:
Students will be grouped into four wherein they will find the art forms (e.g. visual
arts, architecture and literature, theatre arts, dance, choreography and music)
and the development of Philippine Art in four major traditions.
Group I – Ethnic Tradition
Group II – Spanish Colonial Tradition
Group III – American Colonial
Group IV – Contemporary Tradition
D. Analysis:
 How was the activity?
 What are the three major traditions in the development of Philippine Art?
E. Abstraction:
 Were there difference between contemporary art and modern art?
 What are the ethnic art forms during pre-colonial times in the following?
 What happened to the Philippine indigenous art during Spanish regime?
F. Valuing:
 What is the importance of knowing the different contemporary art form?
G. Application:
 With the same groupings differentiate the four major traditions in the
development of arts in the Philippines.

IV: EVALUATION:
Direction: Write E if the statement belongs to Ethnic Tradition, S if it belongs to
