Fifth Grade Social Studies Fair Project

Dear Parents,
Your fifth grade student will be participating in an interdisciplinary collaborative Social
Studies Fair Research Project this year. The Social Studies, Writing, and Library teachers will be
working together to assist your student with this research project. All students will be required
to complete a 600-word research paper and display board, a 3-D visual is optional. We have
attached a timeline giving specific deadlines they will need to meet to guide them through the
research process. We are asking for students to follow the timeline and use the assignments given
to help them develop their project. These assignments will be graded and are considered an
important part of the research process.
There will be a school fair to determine the students who will compete in the DeKalb
County Social Studies Fair. All students will receive a project grade in social studies for
completion of this assignment.
We have also attached a list of topics from which the students are to choose for their
research project. These topics are covered in the fifth grade social studies standards and will help
to improve the students’ understanding of those standards. Students will need to identify their
topic and research question. We are asking each student to return their topic choice form to
Mr. Bryant by Friday, October 18, 2019. Students will receive a complete packet with all
requirements on Tuesday, September 10th to be kept in a pocket folder designated for their Social
Studies Fair Project only. We request your support in helping your child meet his/her deadlines
as we work through the project. Again, thanks for your support as the home and school work
together!

Sincerely,

Mr. Brian M. Bryant
