I. MECHANICS, PROCEDURES AND POLICY FOR WEB-BASED ONLINE CURRICULUM WITH www.coursera.org ,

The parent/tutor is advised to follow the instructions provided by the appropriate website or platform. Every
after the student is finished with one chapter, the parent/tutor shall provide HCSI through its Student
Adviser/Homeschool Adviser with cc. to HCSI School Director a Student Score Report. Parent/Tutor and Student alike
should give HCSI and its Homeschool/Student Adviser its username and password of that particular website and subject
they are enrolled so that HCSI can monitor and check the learning progress of the student. The HCSI administration
and/or its assigned Homeschool/Student Adviser reserves the right to validate the student’s performance and test
results by way of oral exams or written tests either through Skype or E-mail or personal as it deemed fit. Should the
parent-tutor finds the lessons and/or the tests not enough, he/she may add into to it his/her own lessons and tests and
incorporate its test results to the online websites or provider’s grade. If the student fails, he/she may do
rework on it which means study the same materials/lessons again and take the same exercises,
quizzes or tests again. It is the same with the mastery or periodical tests. Passing grade is
80%. Below 80%, student has to do REWORK (Restudy and retake the same materials and
tests again) - some kind of remediation.)
GRADING POLICY
Get first the Lesson or Module Grade which computation are as follows: (In a Semester, there are 2 Grading
Period)

For the Review of Peers, if any, though the student passed, but has no grade. It should be graded by the
parent-tutor but its weight should be lesser by 20% than that of the Peer Graded Assignment, if any to get the
Average of Supervised Output,

METHOD OF GRADING: AVERAGING
HONORS: NO HONOR ROLLS WILL BE AWARDED. IN SOME CASES, AT THE DISCRETION OF THE SCHOOL, A SPECIAL
COMMENDATION WILL BE GIVEN TO EXCEPTIONAL STUDENT.
DURATION: TO BE FINISHED WITHIN FIVE (5) MONTHS FROM ENROLLMENT (FOR ONE SEMESTER) OR TEN MONTHS
FOR TWO (2) SEMESTERS. NO PROMOTION OR GRADUATION SHALL HAPPEN OR BE ALLOWED WITHOUT COMPLETING
ALL THE REQUIRED ACADEMIC LESSONS, MODULES, ASSIGNMENTS OR PROJECTS.
NOTE: It is a must that parents and his/her appointed tutor for the student should make Skype appointment with the
admission officer for ORIENTATION on these “Mechanics, Procedures and Policy” at least a week before the actual
meeting for Orientation once the local textbooks have been received and before starting to study them. The assigned
Homeschool Adviser is available for Skype scheduled appointment at least a week before the actual date of Orientation
through SKYPE.com.
1. Student should read the introduction and table of contents of the book or textbook.
2. Student should read the Unit’s introduction.
3. Student should read the Lesson’s/Chapter’s objective.
4. Student should study each chapter as follows:
Read the introduction and study the lesson/chapter objectives.
Read all the text for the entire lesson/chapter, but answer none of the exercises and activities yet. Student
should not limit his/her learning to the textbook alone but should supplement them with research from the
internet or from other sources and with experiential application.
5. Teacher-Parent then teaches the lessons in each chapter to his/her student per Lesson Plans indicated in the teacher
guide. Teacher-Parent provides quiz or quizzes to the student. Records quizzes to the class record. Without
departing from the textbook’s objectives, teacher-parent should expose her student to the practical side of the
lessons and supplement them with experiential learning through various activities. As a teacher, Teacher-Parent
should be ahead of his/her student in reading the textbook and in the knowledge of the subject he/she is planning to
teach. All quizzes/lesson tests/chapter tests results must be kept in a folder file to be reviewed by the school, at the
discretion of the Student Adviser and/or School authority, at the end of the school year together with the used
textbooks before the report card is to be finalized.
6. Student should reread the entire chapter and answer questions, exercises, activities and lesson/chapter review
questions. No boxed question, exercises, activities and lesson/chapter review questions should be skipped. Boxed
question should be memorized by the student and recited before the teacher-parent. Have the answers checked by
the teacher-parent by indicating signature and date on the related page of the textbook. (Note: Not answering the
boxed question, exercises, activities and chapter review questions, maybe a cause for rework by the student.
Answers to the boxed question, exercises, activities and lesson/chapter review questions should be in the
handwriting of the student. At the end of the school year, at the discretion of the Student Adviser and/or School
authority, filled up textbooks by the student should be reviewed by the school before the final grade is to be
prepared.
7. Teacher-Parent should see to it that the student is ready to take the Lesson/Chapter Tests by making her/his own
quizzes or lesson/chapter tests (optional) or reviewing the students with the concerned lesson/chapter. Once ready,
teacher-parent conducts lesson/chapter tests with questionnaires provided by the school through e-mail. If
Lesson/Chapter test questions are not yet available, he/she should Request for Lesson/Chapter Tests from the school
through the Student Adviser through e-mail. (NOTE: All tests will be sent by the school to the parent-tutor/student
through e-mail upon request. It is the responsibility of the parent-tutor/student to request from the school of the
appropriate tests in accordance to this policy.)
8. Student answers the lesson/chapter test questions provided by the school; teacher-parent checks the related
lesson/chapter tests answers by the Student. Teacher-parent should ask from the Student Adviser the answer key of
the related lesson/chapter tests (in advance).
9. Teacher-Parent may submits lesson/chapter tests results to the Student Adviser through e-mail for counter checking
when asked upon.
10. School sends back to student via e-mail raw score points of the lesson/chapter tests. Scoring should be done as
58/72 or 84/105 with equivalent percentage.
11. Teacher-Parent should record the Lesson/Chapter Tests results to the class record.
12. No skipping of lessons/chapters are allowed in taking Lesson/Chapter Tests.

13. At the end of all lessons/chapters of certain UNIT, the student should take the Unit Tests or Mastery Tests (prepared
by the school). For these subjects, the Unit Test or Mastery Tests will serve as the Periodical Test. But before the
Unit Test/Mastery Tests or Periodical Tests are done, the teacher-parent should see to it that the student is ready to
take the tests by conducting his/her own review to the student. The Supervision and Administration of the Unit Tests,
Mastery Tests or Periodical Tests is at the discretion of the assigned Homeschool or Student Adviser of the student;
14. In most cases, Unit Tests/Mastery Tests or Periodical Tests for the Local Subjects Textbooks are supervised and
administered by the Homeschool Adviser or Student Adviser of the student through www.skype.com or other
means possible. The Teacher-Parent should set an appointment with their Homeschool adviser or Student Adviser
for taking the Unit/Mastery/Periodical Tests at least one (1) week before the scheduled date either through
www.skype.com or in the school (in its campus in Mabolo, Cebu City, Philippines) or other means possible.
15. Student answers the Unit Tests, Mastery Tests or Periodical Tests for the local subjects textbooks under the
Homeschool/Student Adviser supervision through www.skype.com. PASSING GRADE IS 80% ON THE TEST RESULTS.
16. At the discretion of the of the School Director or Homeschool/Students Adviser, Unit Tests, Mastery Tests or
Periodical Tests for the Local Subjects Textbooks maybe delegated to the Teacher-Parent for Supervision and
Administration, the Homeschool/Student Adviser, will then just check the test results vs. the answer key. In this case,
the Teacher-Parent will then just send through e-mail the test results to the Homeschool/Student Adviser for
checking after taking the test. After checking, the Homeschool/Student Adviser will then inform the teacher-parent
and student on the raw score and equivalent percentage. (THE SCHOOL RESERVES THE RIGHT TO VALIDATE ALL
EXAMINATIONS OR TESTS IN WHICH THEY ARE NOT THE ONE WHO ADMINISTERED BY WAY OF ORAL OR WRITTEN
TESTS OR OTHER MEANS POSSIBLE.)
17. Parent-Tutor then records the student’s test results to his/her class record.
18. What if the student fails in the Unit Tests, Mastery Tests or Periodical Tests? If the student fails in the Unit Tests,
Mastery Tests or Periodical Tests, then it means he/she has not mastered the lessons and objectives on the
particular unit. A REWORK is necessary in order to pass these tests. This means the student has to undergo
studying again all the lessons under such unit and take the same lesson tests where he/she failed AND TAKE THE
SAME UNIT/MASTERY TESTS AGAIN.
19. What if the teacher-parent feels that the school prepared tests are not enough? Answer: The teacher-parent may
prepare his/her own tests from the objectives and lessons of the test in questions and shall incorporate its results to
the School prepared tests with the following weight: 25% for teacher-parent prepared tests and 75% for the school
prepared tests.
20. Every quarter or 2 and half months, the teacher-parent are required to submit the periodical grades computation of
the student in all subjects to the Homeschool Adviser or Student Adviser who will check the same the computation.
21. Teacher-Parent are prohibited to submit their student’s performance results (tests or grades) in bulk. The following
are the guidelines and deadlines for submission of various test results, reports and portfolio for local subjects
textbooks:
- Lesson Tests/Quizzes and its Results – To be administered and checked by the Teacher-parent – To be
submitted every after the test is administered and finished (only the raw score and its percentage results are
to be submitted to the Homeschool Adviser or Student Adviser)
- Unit Tests/Mastery Tests/Periodical Tests Results if any – To be administered and checked by the Homeschool
Adviser or Student Adviser (teacher-parent are given by the Homeschool Adviser or Student Adviser the raw
score and its percentage results). This will be administered upon the Teacher-Parent request after all the
lessons, quizzes or chapters under such Unit or Periodical coverage has been finished and passed by the
Student.
- Quarterly Periodical Grades - to be computed and submitted by the Teacher-Parent to the Homeschool
Adviser or Student Adviser based on the GRADING POLICY below.
- Student Portfolio – should ready to be shown to the Homeschool Adviser or Student Adviser for review on a
quarterly basis.
22. Every 10th day after the Unit/Mastery/Periodical Tests, Teacher-Parent is required to submit the subject’s Periodical
Grades (see Computation of Periodical Grade below) of the students to the school through the Student Adviser. It
is the responsibility of the Teacher-Parent to make the Periodical Grades subject to the review and checking of the
Homeschool Adviser or Student Adviser.
23. All tests questions initiated or prepared by the teacher-parent (whether quizzes/lesson tests, chapter tests or unit
tests/mastery tests) and answered by the student should be kept in one folder file and at the discretion of the
Student Adviser and/or School authority, should be reviewed by the school at the end of the school year together
with the used book before the report card is to be finalized.
24. Homeschool/Student Adviser should check the veracity and the accuracy of the periodical grade computation of the
student before recording the same to the student’s Academic Report Card (Form 138).
GRADING POLICY

Computation of Periodical Grade:
Unit/Mastery/Periodical Test Grade - 50%
Ave of Quizzes, Lesson, Chapter Tests - 25%
Average of Supervised Outputs - 20% (this is for activities, exercises, chapter review
questions, projects)
Average of Oral works - 5% (this is for recitation of boxed questions and other
oral works of the student.)
Total Periodical Grade -100%
Multiplied by x 95%
Equals Periodical Grade = XXX
(Note: Highest periodical grade is 95%, lowest passing periodical grade is 80%)
