Induction training
This is when an employee when he/she first joins a
company as induction training is really important in this
sense where the new employee is ready to go when
he/she officially starts the job. One example of induction
training is it taking place in a virtual room with video
presenters. Another example of induction training is to
design a programme which contains a high quality video.
Performance
appraisal This is usually every 6 months where an employer will sit
with his/her employee and discuss and set any potential
goals that need to be set and any goals that have not
been completed as goals that have been completed will
be expected as the employee will be getting paid for this.
One example of performance appraisal is employer
discussing with employee attendance and dependability of
the employee.
Another example of performance appraisal is making use
of the job description as from the employers point of view
is the job description is upto date and accurate only then
an employer can provide a fair performance review.
Off the job training will involve some things you can
actually learn whilst you are actually in the workplace. A
good example would be teachers as part of the job they
will have qualifications and skills sat in a classroom
however they will also be getting observed whilst actually
teaching in doing their job this is because standards have
to be up to scratch at all times.
One example of off the job training is training outside
working hours unless this time is recognised in an
appropriate way.
Coaching and
mentoring Coaching is an approach to management where a coach
will use a set of skills for managing employee
performance to deliver results. One example of coaching
is for an employer to teach his employees how to fish as
making sure they are willing to take feedback.
Another example would be performance improvement for
an employer in giving constructive feedback to
employees.
Graduate training
programme This is someone who has just come out of university and
he/she may be expected to do an intense training
programme.
One example of graduate training programme is
engineering employers can run management programmes
or finance schemes alongside their engineering company.
Another example of graduate training programme is
accountancy and professional services firms will
specialise in training graduates in particular areas of work
such as tax,audit,assurance or advisory.
Management This involves on improving an individual's skills as a
training leader or manager there maybe emphasis on skills such
as communication or software development.
One example of management training is visionary
management this is also sometimes called inspirational.
Another example of management training is transactional
management this focuses on positive rewards such as
incentives and bonuses this is to motivate employees and
get the best out of them.
Secondments
Shadowing
Following someone around and trying to learn what
someone is doing.
One example of shadowing is observation this is when
time is spent where a new employee may follow an
experienced employee in the workplace and watch what
they do on a day to day basis this can go on for a few
weeks when the employee gets the just of how things
work.
Another example of shadowing is regular briefings this is
where the new employee will follow the more experienced
employee beforehand and a follow up brief and this will
also include providing short periods of focused activities.
E-Learning
Is learning online as in the modern era technology has
advanced so much in recent years.
One example of E-Learning is adaptive assessment
example as everyone should be familiarised with
assessment at the end of a unit or module at school well
an upfront quiz online can be useful in a business.
Another example of E-Learning is reflective learning as
the learning experiences that echo the most are the ones
that challenge us as these experiences are less about
telling and teaching and more about guiding learners to
reach their own conclusion.
Vocational &
professional
courses Vocational courses is education that will provide job-
focused training for specific job roles or careers.
One example of vocational courses is associate’s degree
awarded at the end of vocational programs include the
associate of arts or associate of science.
Another example of vocational courses is credit or non
credit degrees
Job rotation
This is if you are doing something for a long time as a
result you can get stale meaning that an employer will
have the responsibility to move jobs around.
One example of job rotation is taking on bigger tasks as
you might be creating 500 word essays every day but now
you have to push yourself and create 1000 word essays
now.
Another example of job rotation is training for growth as
you may be a sales assistant but in future you are looking
to be sales floor manager.
Lifelong learning
Retraining
Is a practise employers may require employees to learn
new skills.
One example of retraining is updating skills an employer
helping employees maintain and develop updated task
specific jobs.
Another method which I may need to achieve my career aim is shadowing as any
part time work I am involved in following and observing another employee in what
they are doing. This is because I do realise that in any task I do someone in the
same environment will be better than me at it so I would much rather follow what
they are doing than hopefully pick up ideas and imitate.
