Statement about the problem:

Home automation system is getting popular and widely used in a lot of houses
worldwide.
It has tons of advantages to users even more to the handicapped and/or elderly users
in which it will make it easier for them to control their home appliances. This
project is to develop a home automation system using an Arduino board with
Bluetooth being remotely controlled by any Android OS smart phone. As
technology is advancing so houses are also getting smarter Modern houses are
gradually shifting from conventional switches to centralized control system,
involving remote controlled switches. Presently, conventional wall switches located
in different parts of the house makes it difficult for the user to go near them to
operate. Even more it becomes more difficult for the elderly or physically
handicapped people to do so. Remote controlled home automation system provides
a mast modern solution with smart phones.
In order to achieve this, a Bluetooth module is interfaced to the Arduino board at
the receiver end while on the transmitter end, a GUl application on the cell phone
sends ON/OFF commands to the receiver where loads are connected.

Why is this topic chosen?

 It is a robust and easy to use system.


 There is no need for extra training of that person who is using it.
 All the control would be in your hands by using this home automation system.
 This project can provide the facility of monitoring all the appliances with in the
communication range through Bluetooth.

Objective and scope of the project:

A home automation system is a technological solution that enables automating the


bulk of electronic, electrical and technology-based tasks within a home. It uses a
combination of hardware and software technologies that enable control and
management over appliances and devices within a home.
 Managing all of your home devices from one place. The convenience factor here is
enormous.
 Flexibility for new devices and appliances.
 Maximizing home security.

Methodology:

 Gathering the parts needed for the project


 Drawing the basic concept
 Connect the arduino and the bluetooth module
 Program the arduino
 Install an android software
 Control the arduino using the android

Software to be used:

C/C++ (programming languages)

Testing technologies used:

 Arduino
 5v 8 channel relay module
 5v Adapter & relay
 HC-05 Bluetooth module
 Jumper wires

Contributions this project would make:

 Home automation system is getting popular and widely used in a lot of houses
worldwide.
 It has tons of advantages to users even more to the handicapped and/or elderly users
in which it will make it easier for them to control their home appliances.
 Home automation systems can be labeled to two medium in which how it is
connected and they are either wired or wirelessly connected.
