STORAGE BEFORE ERECTION (As Received Condition) : Triveni Turbines Limited

The document provides instructions for storing a turbine unit before installation to prevent corrosion. It recommends storing the turbine indoors in a dry, temperature-controlled environment. For storage exceeding 12 months, it advises consulting Triveni Turbines for an inspection and reapplying protective coatings. STORAGE BEFORE ERECTION (as received condition)

During storage, before the unit erection, during erection and prior to first start, certain
precautions must be taken in order to prevent corrosion damage to the equipment.
This instruction primarily covers the equipment delivered by Triveni Turbines Ltd., Bangalore
(TTL). All goods are packed for 06 months storage (including transportation) before leaving TTL
campus.

Upon the receipt of the units and the proper storage in warehouse for duration of 08 months, the
applied coatings are sufficient.
The turbine should be stored indoors whenever possible. The storage area should provide a clean,
dry environment, free from temperature extremes. The turbine should be maintained in an
approximate level position while in storage. The expected protection of the rust preventative does
not take into consideration extreme conditions resulting from outdoor storage. Storing the turbine
outdoors often subjects it to frequent temperature changes, excessive amounts of moisture and, in
some instances, salt laden air. All of these conditions reduce the effectiveness of the rust
preventative and should be avoided.

After 12 months of storage, if the user anticipates continued storage at the warehouse / storage
area; the user is recommended to consult the TTL Service Dept, and TTL recommends for an
open-up inspection of all part and reapply protective preservation coatings, per TTL Service
team’s advice.

Subsequent to 12 months of storage if the erection (installed on foundation) of the turbine unit
done, and if the commissioning is not carried out, the user shall consult the TTL service
department for further preservation process.

During this phase, TTL recommends the following:

1. With the aid of the de-humidifier system, maintain the relative humidity of the air
between 40-50% and continuously pump the air into the turbine section.
2. Alternatively, Nitrogen purging can also be adapted inside the turbine, periodically. A
gauge pressure of 0.35 bar to be maintained at the appropriate place.
3. For every 2 weeks, operate the oil pump on duty for duration of 1 hour. During this period
all control devices shall be moved once from COMPLETELY CLOSED to COMPLETELY
OPEN.

RECOMMENDED PRECAUTIONS DURING STORAGE

All machinery, electrical and other sensitive parts shall be stored indoors. If the storage time
exceeds 12 months, the packages shall be opened and a dehumidifier unit to be connected to the
storage room in order to keep relative humidity below 50%.
Packing and preservation procedure shall be referred for the long storage process of the turbine
units & auxiliaries.
Weather protection and periodic inspections are recommended.

 NOTE: Refer O&M manual for long storage of Generators.

ARRIVAL AT SITE

Place crates and boxes not exposing to water (rain, flooding, etc.) and/or physical damage. Do not
open any box or crate until the specific equipment/item required for use. If an opened box or
crate is to be stored further, it must be carefully closed and resealed.

All crates and boxes inventory mustering should be done against the packing list in presence of
the TTL site representative.

SPARE PARTS

Spare Parts are to be placed indoors in a ventilated space with normal room temperature and
preferably low humidity.
Rust inhibitors should not be removed until each part is intended to be used.

CONTROL PANEL

Do not remove or damage the plastic film that covers each cubicle. If an inspection of the cubicles
has to be made, the moisture absorbent (silica gel) must not be removed from inside the cubicles.
Welding as soon as possible should then hermetically reseal the plastic film. Do not place the
cubicles in their final space until the conditions are such that no condensation will take place
inside the cubicles..
