1- Flow Determination

daily average flow (present) = 5 l/s = 79.26 gpm

peak flow (present)= 15 l/s = 238 gpm
daily average flow(future) = 5 l/s = 79.26 gpm
peak flow(future) = 15 l/s = 238 gpm
number of acting pumps = 3
number of stand-by pumps = 1
consider the total pump capacity is slightly higher than the peak flow
in this case:
flow per pump = 5 l/s = 79.26 gpm
total flow from p.s 15 l/s = 238 gpm
total flow per pump is higher than the peak flow by : 0 %

2- Force Main Sizing

The velocity in the force main should be:

maximum of 1.5 m/s (5 fps)
minimum of 0.6 m/s (2 fps)
As such for the flow indicated above the pipe size will be determined as follows:
1-when one pump is acting the velocity should not be less than 2 fps
2- when all pumps are acting the velocity should not be higher than 5 fps

pipe diameter (in) 3 4 5 6 8 10 12 14

as such FH = 63.151 ft

C- Static head

static head = 10 ft

4- System Head Curve Analysis

the system curve will be generated with 10 points from 50% to 150% of the design flow.
also the pump curve will be extracted from the manufacturer catalogue for the same flows.
then the curve for multiple pump operation will be generated.

calculation is based on :
1- a maximum change in velocity will occur when all pumps are running at min. static head cond.
2- min static head condition will occur when the system has the max water level present.

from the system curve the operating point at the min static head would be determined as follows:
head at min static head = 89.406 ft = 27.26 m
from curve the flow = 286 gpm = 18
max change in velocity = 7.293 fps = 2.223 m/s

d = pipe I.D = 4 in 4E+05 PVC
e = modulus of elasticity = 3E+06 psi 3E+06 ductile
t = pipe wall thickness = 0.2835 in

a = 2971 fps

b- maximum surge pressure (p)

Pump Station Calculation

v = max change in velocity = 7.293 fps
g = acceleration due to gravit = 32.2 ft/sec2
