Course Aims & Objectives:

AIM:
To expose the students to the concepts of electromechanical energy conversions in
D.C. machines and energy transfer in transformers and to analyse their performance.

OBJECTIVE:
i. To familiarize the constructional details, the principle of operation,
prediction of performance, the methods of testing the transformers and three phase
transformer connections.
ii. To introduce the principles of electromechanical energy conversion in
singly and multiply excited systems.
iii. To study the working principles of electrical machines using the concepts
of electromechanical energy conversion principles and derive expressions for
generated voltage and torque developed in all Electrical Machines.
iv. To study the working principles of DC machines as Generator and Motor,
types, determination of their no-load/load characteristics, starting and methods of
speed control of motors.
v. To estimate the various losses taking place in D.C. machines and to study
the different testing methods to arrive at their performance.

Teaching pattern:
Duration of course: 1 semester
Mix of lecture/ tutorial : 4 hrs. Lecture/week and 1 hr. tutorial/ week.

Assessment Pattern:
Examination duration & Portion Covered:
50 min unit test after completion of one unit, covering First unit.
100 min cycle test after completion 2 units.
50 min after completion of third unit, covering Third unit (unit Test -2)
100 min Cycle test after completion of 4 Units
3 hrs Model Exam in university pattern after completion of 5 units.

Percentage distribution of marks for course work, examination, other:


UT 1- 60 Marks, CT – 1 – 80 Marks, UT -2 – 60 Marks, CT – 2-80 Marks & Model
Exam – 100 Marks . (Attendance in regular classes 5 marks)

Pass Mark: pass percentage 50 % in all tests.
