DLL - September 19 Demo Math

1) The lesson plan outlines teaching decimals to 5th grade students, with the objective of estimating products of decimal numbers with reasonable results. 2) Activities include reviewing rounding decimals, watching a video on estimating decimal multiplication, and working in groups to estimate products by rounding decimals. 3) Students practice estimating products like how much 3 pencils would cost at $7.65 each, and word problems involving quantities like kilograms of eggplants harvested.

Set the purpose for viewing.
The video clip is all about how to estimate the products of decimal numbers.
Your task is to jot down the steps in estimating products of decimal numbers and then discuss it with your group
C. Presenting Examples/ instances Present the following problem
of the new lesson Carlo bought 3 pencils at ₱7.65 each. About how much did he pay in all?

Ask the following questions:

1) What are given?
2) What is being asked?
3) Do we need exact answer or just an estimate to solve the problem? Why do you think so?
4) What is the number sentence?
5) How do we estimate products of decimals?
D. Discussing new concepts and Group the class into three.
practicing new skills #1
Group 1
Round each factor to the greatest place value and estimate each product.
1. 5.22 2. 1.7 3. 0.53
x 3 x 3.17 x 5.1

Group 2
Round each factor to the greatest place value and estimate each product.
1. 0.57 x 7.2= 2. 8.54 x 4= 3. 9.2 x 8.42=
Group 3
Round each factor to the greatest place value and estimate each product.
1. A kilo of eggplant cost ₱35.50. How much will you pay if you buy 3 kilos?
2. Crio consumed 1.96 liters of water in one day. How many liters of water can Crio consume in one week?
3. Mother bought 3 cans of sardines at ₱14.50 each. What is the total amount of the items she bought?

E. Discussing new concepts and Presentation of output.

practicing new skills #2
Explain step-by-step the process of estimating products of decimals numbers.
If possible, elicit this from the pupils or have them do the explaining.
F. Developing Mastery Get moving
Round each factor to the greatest place value and estimate each product.
1. 42.6 2. 68.54
x 37.2 x 24.4

3. 99.2 x 48.5=
4.123.86 x 31.5=
5. One mango cost ₱4.25. How much will 4 dozens of mango cost?
G. Finding Practical application of Read the problem then answer the questions that follow:
concepts and skills in daily living Sir Christopher and Mam Bernadelle harvested eggplant for the Gulayan sa Paaralan Tiangge Day. They were able to fill 3.5 kaings each weighing 18.75 kilograms.
1. About how many kilograms of eggplant were harvested for the Gulayan sa Paaralan Tiangge Day?
2. If they will sell the eggplant for ₱24.25 a kilo,
a) By how much will they get for one kaing?
b) By how much will they get for all the eggplant?
3. A businessman will buy all the eggplant, but will be given 1.5 kilograms free for each kaing. About how much will he pay?
4. Do you think that much of eggplant will be ready to be sold for Gulayan sa Paaralan Tiangge Day if only Sir Chritopher picked the eggplant? Why?
H. Making generalization and How do you estimate the products of decimal numbers?
abstraction about the lesson
You can multiply a decimal with a whole number to find an exact answer.
When an exact answer is not necessary, you can find an approximate product by estimating.
To find a reasonable estimate using decimal numbers, round the decimal to the nearest whole number.
Remember to look at the number in the tenths place
I. Evaluating learning Estimate each product by rounding:
1) 22.7 2.73.82 3. 8.493
x 0.08 x 0.28 x .08

4. Ivan runs 4.8 km every morning. About how many kilometers does he run each week?
5. In 6.75 x 8.56 if the factors are rounded to the nearest whole number, will the estimate be greater or smaller than the actual product? Explain.

J. Additional activities for Estimate the product:
