NUJS PD TOPICS- 2
Round 1: Kids & Education
1. TH supports the establishment of politically affiliated student unions in ALL
universities (public/ private).
2. (Assuming that the technology is available) THBT parents have the right to
install location chips in their children up to the age of 16.
3. TH mandates that all schools, including minority schools, expose their kids
to atheism as part of the curriculum.
Round 2: Jobs
1. THBT all candidates contesting elections for public office should publish
their personal health records prior to the election.
2. THW allow the Indian Administrative Service to recruit from the private
sector for mid and high level positions.
3. THBT employers should have the right to impose random drug test on their
employees.
Clarification: The Indian Administrative Service recruits through an entrance
examination for entry into the cadre. Promotions for mid and senior level
positions are made from within the cadre in the IAS
Round 3: #DelhiGangRape
1. THW allow the identity of rape victims to be revealed publicly, even without
the consent of the victim.
2. THW abolish all extra-judicial religious/caste authorities that regulate social
and legal conduct (khaps, Imams issuing fatwas).
3. THBT juveniles accused of rape should be tried and punished using the
same standard as adults.
Round 4: Sports
1. THW let the public elect the Indian national cricket squad from a shortlisted
pool of cricketers.
2. THW punish sporting teams for the misdemeanour of their fans.
3. (Assuming technology is available) THW do away with human referees in
international sporting contests.
Round 5: Maa, Maati and Manush
1. THBT all companies mining natural resources should allocate a portion of
annual profits from the region to the affected local population.
2. THW limit the ownership of multiple properties by citizens in land-strapped
countries.
3. THW restrict urban-rural migration in developing countries.
Round 6: Doctors & Medicine
1. THBT medical professionals should be held criminally liable for abandoning
their responsibility during an epidemic of contagious nature
2. THW compulsorily license all life-saving drugs in India
3. THBT hospitals must compensate patients participating in “medical trials”
for incurable diseases/conditions.
Clarification:
1. Under compulsory license, an individual or company seeking to use a
patent can do so without seeking the patent holder’s consent, and pays the
patent holder a set fee for the license.
2. A compulsory license is granted by the government.
Octo-finals: First-world-problems
1. THBT companies should not be allowed to place contractual restrictions on
employee conduct on social networks.
2. THW force luxury designer clothing houses to include plus-sizes for ALL
their collections.
3. THBT there should be no retirement age for employees (public and private).
Quarter-finals: International Relations
1. This house believes that the West should provide preferential economic and
political incentives to Arab democracies that adopt secular constitutions.
2. THBT countries should stop penalizing their nationals (citizens and
companies) for bribing foreign public officials outside their territory.

Semi-finals: Rights
1. TH supports the unregulated trade of human organs between consenting
adults.

basis of homosexuality.

NLS PD TOPICS
Round One: The United Nations
– THW reorganize the United Nations into an American style, bicameral
legislature.
– THS full membership status for Kosovo in the United Nations.

Round Two: Fashion and Style
– THBT modeling agencies should be required to provide medical benefits to
their employees that cover the cost of treatment for eating disorders.
– THW not allow children to work in the modeling industry.
– THBT government should prohibit national beauty pageants from utilizing
minimum height requirements.
Round Three: Elections
– THS a McCain/Palin victory in the US election.
– THW require candidates for national leadership to participate in at least 3
televised debates prior to election day.
– THBT that judges for the highest national court should be popularly elected.
Round Four: Sports
– THW allow the use of performance enhancing drugs in international sporting
competitions.
– THBT all future Olympic Games should provide prize money for medalists.

– THW censor fast food advertising to children.
– THW provide tax breaks to all citizens who follow a balanced, low fat diet.

Octofinals: Non Human Nature
– THBT violent action to protect the environment is justified.
– THBT forest conservation policies must respect the rights of indigenous
inhabitants.
– THS economic sanctions against any nation that does not act to reduce their
carbon emissions.

Quarterfinals: Religion and Politics


– THBT the state should not provide any special benefits to its citizens on the
basis of religion.
– THBT political leaders should be prevented from publicly attributing their
achievements to God.
– TH prefers theocracy to communism.
Semifinals: Issues in Sexuality
– THBT universities should offer an elective course on effective sexual
techniques.
– THS the legalization of homosexuality.
– THW utilize government resources to provide free sterilization procedures to
the general public.
Finals: Philosophical Principles
– THBT utilitarianism should not be used to justify human rights violations.*

– THBT, in the future, human clones should not be granted rights equal to
humans.
– THBT laws punishing crimes against humanity should be applied retro-
actively.
NLS PD TOPICS- 2
Round 1: THW impose a tax on meat consumption.
Round 2: THW not disclose the identity of suspects of crimes until proven
guilty.
Round 3: This house, as Barack Obama, who personally believes in
protecting whistleblowers, would secretly help Edward Snowden using his own
resources and not as the President of the United States.
Round 4: THW allow the purchase of private property in outer space and on
various celestial bodies. (Infoslide: There already exists a company selling
property on the moon; UN Conventions are ambiguously worded in not
prohibiting such acts; there have been disputes over recognizing the
legitimacy of such purchases)
Round 5: THW censor films that objectify women.
Novice Semis: THW teach gender neutral pronouns in primary school.
Novice finals: THBT India should adopt nuclear power as its primary source
of energy.
Quarter Finals: THBT academic journals should accept and publish 50% of
its articles from women.
Semifinals: THW not recognize any more religions than it already has.
Finals: TH celebrates the rise of China as a hegemon.

DEBATE TOPIC
1. Is it important for all schools to conduct mandatory drug testing on their
students?
2. Is animal testing a justified?
– Animals have a part of the rights as we have as humans, and should
not be harmed when this can be avoided.
– The only alternative is testing on humans, and we want to avoid that.
For new products there is no real alternative and we are doing
everything we can before we start the testing on animals, that we try to
eliminate any real harm to the animals.
3. Should cell phones be used during class?
– Cell phones can be a great source of information and a great learning
tool. Of course if used in a proper way. Teachers can include them as a
tool and even provide apps for the students to use together as a class.
– Students should learn the old fashion way, without any use of
technology because this is the best way to learn. Writing, calculus and
other basic sciences should be learned as a basic for everything else
without any technology.

– Everyone can decide for himself if he/she wants to harm
himself/herself. The harm to people around the smoker can be
minimised and the harm to society can also be minimised.
