Lug For Plate Rev.2

This document provides design criteria and calculations for a steel lug plate and shackle. It specifies the material properties of normal SS 400 steel with a yield stress of 2,100 N/mm2. It then calculates the allowable stresses for tension, compression, shear, and bearing based on a safety factor of 1.5. Dimensions for a recommended shackle design are provided. Stress calculations are performed for the maximum design load of 4,000 kgf applied at each lug, and all stresses are verified to be below the allowable values.

safety Factor ; 1.5 per each Cover with Lug
Allowable Stress Value

Tension Side Allowable Bending Moment Stress σ ta = σ s/ 1.5 = 1,400 kgf / cm 2

Compression Side Allowance Bending Moment Stress σ ca = σ ta/ 1.15 = 1,217 kgf / cm 2

Allowable Shear Stress τa = σ ta/ 3 = 809 kgf / cm 2

Allowable Bearing Stress σ da = 1.4 × σ ta = 1,960 kgf / cm 2

Design Capacity per each Lug ( Maximum ) F1 = 4000 kgf

Cross Section Area at Lifting Point A = 10 cm2

Shearing Force at Lifting Point S = F 1/ 2 = 4000 kgf / 2 = 2000 kgf

Degree of Shearing Stress τ = S / A = 2000 kgf / 10 cm2 = 200 kgf/cm2 < τa = 809 kgf/cm2 O.K.

Concentration Stress σ tc = 3 × F1 / 2 ×A = 3 x 4000 / 2 x 10 cm2 = 600 kgf/cm2 < σ ta = 1400 kgf/cm2 O.K.

Bearing Stress σ d = F 1× 2 / A = 4000 kgf x 2 / 10 cm2 = 800 kgf/cm2 < σ da = 1,960kgf / cm2 O.K.
