Tagalog Syntax

Tagalog is an Austronesian language spoken in the Philippines. It has become known as Filipino, one of the national languages. Tagalog has a verbal hierarchy of projections of C>T>PASS>(PROG)>v>V and a nominal hierarchy of D>(POSS)>n>N. Verbs are marked for aspects like passive and progressive, but not person, number, or gender. Topicalization involves moving the topic to the front of the clause and adding a focus marker.
