Lesson Plan Template

This lesson plan aims to teach students how to analyze the different sections of a musical piece based on deductive reasoning. Students will listen to a song individually and map out the timeline of sections on Padlet. Then they will discuss as a class to agree on the unified section structure. Their understanding will be assessed through this discussion and a follow up homework assignment. The lesson is designed to allow students to work independently at their own pace, with teacher support for those needing help, and extension activities for advanced students.

lesson?
After this lesson, the students should be able to listen to any piece of music and determine the
different sections of it based on deductive reasoning. They can easily apply this in their
everyday lives because you can listen to a song on the radio, be performing a song in any
setting, or even thinking about creating a song and apply what they learn in this lesson. We’re
not too focused on the terminology for the purposes of this presentation, but we would certainly
include the terminology in a full lesson for a class.

Materials Something to play the audio of the song to be able to determine the sections and then Padlet to
have them create the ‘timeline’ of the piece.
