Chapter I: Regretful Wish
Chapter I: Regretful Wish
A world of deceitful creatures – that’s how I describe this world and its inhabitants, excluding me. I
might be a human being but it doesn’t mean that I’m no different from them. They’re all just heartless
creatures with the desire of satisfying themselves, forgetting that there are others around them. They’re
competing with one another, leaving no place to think about what they’ve destroyed in order to achieve
their selfish goals. Thousands of conspiracies, filthy politics, disgusting society, I’ve had enough of this
life. And here I am, looking at the metropolitan city from the roof of my home where I live alone,
thinking about how useless this life is. I stand up in hopelessness, walking toward the edge of the two-
level building and close my eyes. Slowly, I lean forward and I feel my body flying in the air with one last
sentence coming out from my mouth.
“IF THERE’S SOMEONE WHO CAN GIVE ME A BETTER LIFE THEN GIVE IT TO ME, NOW!”
Suddenly, a bright light appears in front of me. It then dissipates little by little and I can finally open my
eyes. I’m shocked to see that I’m floating in the air, but what’s worse is that I see the city has become a
fire field. Then, I hear a voice in my head which I can identify as a girl.
With all that shocking vision, I wake up from my sleep. It seems that I fell asleep when I was busy
thinking about this life. But when I take a look once again at the city, it really has been engulfed in flame.
Suddenly, I heard a thump from behind. I quickly get up and take a look back which make me fall again
to the surface. A monster with big jaws and claws is standing right in front of me. Its werewolf like form
is intimidating, knowing that I have nothing to at least make it runs away. I thought of letting myself get
killed since I don’t want to live in this place anymore, but I’m still trembling in fear. The monster comes
closer and raises its arm, ready to give me the finishing blow. When it almost hits me, once again, a
bright light appears and the everything around me becomes white. Along with it, a figure with wings
appears from the sky.
“Rei, what has just happened before you was mankind’s apocalypse. This world’s future lies within your
hand but the decision is still yours to make. Should you choose yes, I’ll grant you the ability to fight for it
but I’ll leave you be if you decline.”
“Future? Don’t make me laugh, I’m here trying to end my life, yet you appear to get in my way so that I
can save the world. I’m pretty sure as well that those wings aren’t more than accessories to convince me
that I must follow your guidance because you’re a goddess. And don’t call me with that name anymore,
I’ve had enough of it.”
“I’m not giving you this chance out of nowhere. In case you succeed, I’ll give you a better life like what
you’re hoping for. And for your information, I’m truly a goddess which is why I can grant you your wish.
Think about this wisely as I won’t give you a second chance.”
Seeing her power of appearing out of nowhere and creating this parallel space has actually shown me
enough of her power but her way of speaking is the thing that makes me realize that she’s serious about
this. And if she can really make my wish come true…
“Then that’s it, I’ll stick with your plan. But make sure you don’t give me unnecessary things.”
“Very well, use this wisely.” She moves her palm towards me and a sphere of light starts to appear. It
gets brighter and the next thing I know is I’m back to where was, except that I’m holding a sword in my
right hand which I spontaneously use to block the monster’s arm.
“You dare to mock me, huh? Get ready to be executed!” I push it back and quickly stab its abdomen. It
gives out a load roar and dissipates slowly into the air.
After my first experience, I feel that it won’t be too much of a hassle to finish off something this weak.
But when I am about to get down, I feel that the house is crumbling. That’s when I realize that more of
those werewolves are waiting for me down there.
