Individual Task Lesson 10

In a laboratory information management system (LIMS), laboratory requests start with patient registration where basic information is collected. After registration, the patient guides through submitting required test requests approved by their doctor. Samples collected from patients are labeled with unique barcodes, allowing fast and easy identification of tubes and results. LIMS makes the submission and retrieval of laboratory requests and results efficient with minimal errors compared to a manual process.

Discuss the retrieval and submission of laboratory requests in LIMS.

In LIMS, the submission of laboratory requests starts with the patient registration.
Before submitting laboratory requests, the admission clerk will ask basic information
about the patient and is inputted using LIMS. After all information is collected, the patient
will now be guided to the registration form wherein he/she will apply for the required tests
given to her by the doctor. After approval of the form, the patient will now be able to take
the required tests. The samples collected from the patients will now have its own barcode
with a unique identification number. Through the use of the barcodes, identifying of tubes,
samples, and any other documents are now fast and easy. Furthermore, the retrieval of
tube, specimen, and results from laboratory tests is now effortlessly efficient especially
for the health care professionals that are assigned to the management of such information.
Using LIMS, there are minimal to no errors in the submission and retrieval of laboratory
requests that usually occurs in the manual process.
