Articles are used to point or refer to
nouns.
A and An are the indefinite articles.They
are used before nouns.They are always
usewith singular nouns.
“A” is used when the noun begins with a
consonant.
What are the consonant letters? (b,,c,d,f,g,h,j,k,l,m,n,p,q,r,s,t,v,w,x,y,z.)
For example, a book, a pencil.
“A” is also used before words that start
with a vowel letter but the vowel sounds a
consonant.
For example, a university.
The word starts with a vowel but the
vowel ‘u’ sounds as the consonant “y”.
“An” is used when the noun begins with
a vowel.
What are the vowels? (a,e,i,o,u).
For example,an eagle,an icecream.
Okay let’s name the things you got from
your bag earlier.
Use a or an before each noun okay? Yes,teacher.

So now,can anybody tell the difference Teacher, A is used in nouns that starts in
between a and an? consonants and vowels that sound like
consonants,while AN is used in nouns that
begin with vowels.

D.Application

The teacher will draw two columns on the


board.Write “a” on top of one column.Write
“an” on top of another column.
I will group you into two groups.The team
A will give words that take the article “a” before
them.The team B will give words that take an
article “an” before them.If any member of both
teams writes a plural noun,the team loses a
point.Play the game for 10 minutes.the team
which scores more points wins.
