Koba Steel Bars

The document provides calculations for the reinforcement requirements of a proposed 3-storey hotel building. It calculates: 1) The total length of steel bar needed for column reinforcement is 14.05m, requiring 243 pieces of 6m steel bars. 2) Beam and girder reinforcement will require 189 pieces of 6m steel bars. 3) Lateral tie reinforcement for the columns will require 273 pieces of 1m steel bars and 39kg of tie wire. 4) Stirrup reinforcement for the beams and girders will require 481 pieces of 6m steel bars and 109kg of tie wire.

PROPOSED 3-STOREY HOTEL

3-7 POST AND COLUMN REINFORCEMENT

Note: Using 20 mm ø, 6 m long steel bars

Column (30 columns)

Calculate the total length of the main steel bar reinforcements.

A. Bend at the base footing = 0.20m
B. Length from footing to ground floor = 1.20m
C. Height from ground line to beam = 10.20 m
D. Depth of beam in Ground Floor = 0.45m
E. Depth of beam in 2nd floor = 0.45m
F. Depth of beam in 3rd floor = 0.45m
G. Thickness of the floor slab(3 floors) = 0.30m
H. Dowel for 2nd floor = 0.40m
I. Dowel for 3rd floor = 0.40m

Total length of the Reinforcement = 14.05m

Number of Steel Bars:

3-8 BEAM AND GIRDER REINFORCEMENT

Note: 20 mm ø, 6 m long steel bars

With a span of 5.8 meters (4pcs.) (2 floors)

No. of Steel Bars = x number of bars x lengthofspan

number of beams x number of floors 6meters

No. of Steel Bars = x 6 x 16x 2 = With a span of 5.8m

3.6 meters (12pcs.) (2 floors) 6meters
No. of Steel Bars = x number of bars x lengthofspan
number of beams x number of floors 6meters
No. of Steel Bars = x 6 x 16x2 = 115.2 pieces 3.6m

With a span of 2.5 meters (12pcs.) (2 floors)

No. of Steel Bars = x number of bars x lengthofspan

number of beams x number of floors 6meters
No. of Steel Bars = x 6 x 10 x 2 =50 pieces 2.5m

With a span of 1.5 meters (12pcs.) (3 floors)

No. of Steel Bars = x number of bars x lengthofspan

number of beams x number of floors 6meters

Total number of steel bars = 189.2 pieces

3-9 LATERAL TIES

Note: Diameter of longitudinal bar: 20mm

Diameter of Lateral Ties: 10mm

Column Dimensions: 0.30m x 0.30m

The ACI Code (Lateral Ties Spacing):

1. 16 x the longitudinal bar diameter

2. 48 x the lateral tie bar diameter
3. The least dimension of the column

Determine the spacing of the lateral ties:

16 x 20mm = 320mm or 32.00cm

48 x 10mm = 480mm or 48cm

The least dimension of the column is 30cm

Note: Use 30cm spacing

Spacing = = 20 6.00m
0.30m
No. of Lateral Ties = 20 + 1 = 21 pieces

Total Ties = 21 x 13 columns = 273 pieces

Note: By inspection, the tie is 100cm or 1.00m long. Using 6.0 m long steel bar
No. of ties that can be derived = = 6 6.00m
ties in every 6m long steel bar 1.00m
No. of steel bars = = 105 pieces of 6m 630ties
long steel bars 6ties

Tie wire (Note: each tie is 40cm long, In every one kilogram of No.16 G.I. wire there is approximately 53

3-10 STIRRUPS FOR BEAMS AND GIRDERS

Note: No. of stirrups per 1m span beam = 7 pieces

From the design, Total beam span (3 floors) = 343.20 m

343.20m x 7 pieces = 2403 pieces

For a 0.29m x 0.39m beam (beams have the same dimensions)

From table D-3 (Estimating Bill of materials by Vicente A. Tagayun)

5 pcs of closed stirrups available from 6m long steel bars

= 481 pieces of steel bars 2403 pcs
