1.3.1.1 Situation Awareness

PathfinderÒ/ST MK2 ECDIS provides the Watch Officer with true situation awareness
incorporating essential real-time data on an easy to read electronic chart display,
including:

1. Position of the ship relative to intended course.

2. Movement of other local vessel traffic (ARPA input required).

3. Location of restricted areas.

4. Man-overboard one touch commands.

5. Navigational aid information.

1.3.1.2 Anti-Grounding and Collision Avoidance

The PathfinderÒ/ST MK2 ECDIS system is a crucial element of an integrated navigation
system for preventing disasters before they happen:
1. Visible anti-grounding sector ahead of ship when operator inputs safe depth
and sector length.

2. Warns against accepted routes through dangerously shallow water or restricted

zones.

3. Highlights spot soundings of unsafe depths.

4. When used with an appropriate Auto Pilot, the ECDIS prompts to acknowledge
course change. Once accepted, auto executes turns using predetermined
turning radius and cross track error limit.

5. Visual and audible alarms when vessel is off track, approaching shallow depths,
wheel over point or guard zone boundary line.

1.3.1.3 Advanced Route Planning and Monitoring

By using PathfinderÒ/ST MK2 ECDIS electronic planning capabilities can monitor and
plan routes, enter waypoints directly from paper charts, and look ahead. The ship sym-
bol is directional, oriented by the gyro heading and scaled in length & width according to
the Chart Scale in use. The heading vector appears as an arrow originating from the
bow and a search-light is projected ahead of the ship to assist in anti-grounding.

The following pages describe in detail the hardware and software provided with the
PathfinderÒ/ST ECDIS System.

1.3.4.1 Digitizer
The PathfinderÒ/ST MK2 ECDIS is designed to interface with a chart digitizing table.
This permits the mariner to plan routes on paper charts and to load information from
paper chart into PathfinderÒ/ST MK2 ECDIS CM 93--3 database.

1.3.4.2 Printer
A printer provides chart printing capability.

1.3.4.3 Software Description

The PathfinderÒ/ST MK2 ECDIS software comes fully installed. The software is issued
as a user’s license with the operating license held by Raytheon to reduce costs to the
user. The ECDIS runs on Microsoft Windows NT version 4.0 or greater and is designed
to meet IMO regulations.

1.4 ECDIS
Figure 1--3, (below) illustrates a simplified block diagram of a typical ECDIS (Electronic
Chart Display and Information System (ECDIS). ECDIS has the capability of integrating
and prioritizing several different positioning systems to come up with a reliable solution
even when one or more positioning sensors is not functional. Other ship sensors and
systems are also integrated such as engine monitoring sensors, RADAR and ARPA (Au-
tomatic RADAR Plotting Aid) and autopilot.

Figure 1--3 ECDIS Simplified Block Diagram

The electronic chart database is at the center of an ECDIS. Charts for ECDIS are ENC
vector charts with detailed information on bathymetry, shipping channels, navigational
aids (NAVAIDs); hazards, tides, and currents. These charts, combined with precise posi-
tioning enable the ECDIS to predict bottom clearance and alert the navigator of potential
groundings. For areas where coverage with ENC data is not given ECDIS provides use
of raster charts.

Usually, an ECDIS will incorporate information from a depth sounder to combine the ba-
thymetric chart data, the tide, the current, and the positioning calculations.
The important point to distinguishing ECDIS from e.g. ECS (Electronic Chart System) is
that they are designed to be a legally accepted replacement for carrying paper charts on
board the vessel. The International Maritime Organization (IMO) and its member states
will eventually sanction the use of ECDIS in lieu of paper charts. Hence, great effort has
been made to specify and test equipment and data standards in order to achieve this
goal safely.

SERVICE MANUAL

Another important capability of ECDIS is a result of combining the RADAR/ARPA system

with the electronic chart. Using the RADAR return, the ARPA automatically acquires and
tracks targets (ships) and computes their position, course, and speed. These targets are
then plotted and extrapolated into the future on the electronic chart.

1. The availability of mounting space, and its location.

2. Space required for operation and servicing of the unit(s).

3. The availability of power.

4. Avoiding electrical and mechanical interference.

5. Maximum Cable Lengths.

6. Cable runs should be properly supported and not provide impromptu hand or
foot holds.

7. As many ship board system installations are in areas of high humidity or

moisture, follow the installation practices (hardware and corrosion prevention)
recommended for marine environments as outlined in this manual. Cable
lengths are determined by each vessel.

2.4.2 Site Preparation

2.4.2.1 Surveying the Delivery Route

The route over which the equipment will be moved, from the receiving area to the instal-
lation site, should be studied in advance. Factors to be considered include:
1.Height, width, and location of entrances.

2.Size, capacity, and availability of lifting and transportation equipment.

3.Floor loading capacity and floor protection requirements.

Selected delivery route must allow sufficient clearance for passage of the equipment.
Refer to Fig. 2--1 for the C21 Deck Stand outline drawing, Fig. 2--2 for the C29 Deck
Stand outline drawing.

2.4.3.1 Site Layout ECDIS Display

The ECDIS Display can be located near the Radar Displays (no closer than 3 feet un-
less magnetic shielding is provided) in such a fashion that the ECDIS screen may be
comfortably viewed while observing the radar display.
Other guidelines to be considered include:

1. The ECDIS Display must not be exposed to weather conditions. Do not install
the ECDIS near entrances or exits that expose the unit to excessive moisture.

2. Allow sufficient clearance for service and ventilation of the unit. A minimum of 2”
clearance from rear of ECDIS is required for ventilation.

3. Install the Display Unit such that the top of the screen (rear of unit) is towards
the bow.

4. Position the ECDIS Display a minimum of six feet away from any
communications and navigation equipment that is not magnetically shielded.

2.4.5 Bonding
The purpose of bonding ECDIS equipment to a local earth ground is to prevent radio fre-
quency interference (RFI) and to minimize the chance of lightning damage.
Proper site planning must include provisions for installing a low resistance ground sys-
tem path as close as possible (2 foot maximum) to each unit in the system.

Bonding practices considered acceptable by Raytheon Marine Company include not

only the use of bonding straps but also connection of cable shields and drains to cable
entrance clamps. Ground lugs adjacent to these clamps are provided in each unit and
should be used for connection of unused conductors.

Copper strapping, 60 mil thick by 1-1/4-inch wide is provided for electrical bonding of the
PathfinderÒ/ST MK2 ECDIS Display and Processor units to the ground system.
These straps should be as short as possible.

While copper is the recommended material for bonding straps, its place in the galvanic
series as listed in Table 2--7 presents a corrosion problem if not treated properly. Use of
a non-migratory grease compound such as NO-AL-OXÒ will minimize galvanic interac-
tion and ensure a long-lasting, low resistance connection.
The length of the bonding strap should be cut to form the shortest possible path to the
bonding point. All surfaces should be carefully cleaned and coated with NO-AL-OXÒ
compound prior to assembly.
Placing the bonding strap under an equipment mounting bolt is not considered proper
bonding procedure.

2.4.6 System Cabling

Prior to running any cables and making system connections consider the following
guidelines.
1. If a cable passes through an outside wall, or is terminated in a unit that is ex
posed to the weather, the cable entrance should be made watertight with an
approved marine fitting. The fitting should be sealed with a packing material
and covered with a caulking compound to prevent an accumulation of moisture.

2. Avoid running cables in areas that are exposed to extremes of heat such as
steam lines.

3. Protect cables with tubing if there is a possibility that the cable will be subjected
to mechanical abrasion or chafing.

4. When existing cable runs are used to hang and secure the cables, ensure that
there is no possibility of radiated interference.

5. Determine cable entry point into the base unit. Cable entry to the base unit can
be from the bottom or from an access plate at the left rear of the cabinet.

2.4.7 System Interconnections

The following pictorial diagrams of the ECDIS Processor and Monitors are provided with
type cables required and part numbers. These diagrams provide an overall view of an

2.4.8 Power Requirements

In designing the PathfinderÒ/ST MK2 ECDIS, efforts have been made to ensure satis-
factory operation with power supplied by most prime power systems. In an attempt to
guard against system malfunctions caused by externally radiated or conducted tran-
sients, or from electrical signals superimposed on the power lines supplying the system,
power distribution to the system should comply with the following guidelines:

1. The system power source should be capable of handling the originally installed
equipment, as well as taking into consideration the possibility of adding options
or future expansion.

2. Whenever possible power should be routed through a UPS system.

3. The power source should be stable and noise-free. If possible, the power
should be derived from a dedicated line.

4. Do not connect large electric motors, air conditioners, or high current-drawing

equipment to the same circuit as the PathfinderÒ/ST MK2 ECDIS system.

for the Raytheon MK2 ECDIS system.

2.8.1 Safety
The following safety precautions must be observed:

WARNING
WHEN OPERATING, THE MK2 PATHFINDERÒ/ST ECDIS
CONTAIN VOLTAGES HAZARDOUS TO LIFE. HAZARDOUS
AC VOLTAGES ARE PRESENT IN THE UNITS EVEN THOUGH
THEY ARE DE-ENERGIZED, UNLESS THE PRIMARY POWER
CIRCUIT BREAKERS HAVE BEEN TURNED OFF. MAINTE-
NANCE PERSONNEL ARE CAUTIONED TO EXERCISE EX-
TREME CARE AND USE COMMON SENSE WHEN SERVICING
THESE UNITS.

CAUTION
ALWAYS DE-ENERGIZE EQUIPMENT BY TURNING THE EC-
DIS INPUT POWER OFF BEFORE REMOVING PLUG-IN
PRINTED CIRCUIT BOARDS AND ASSEMBLIES.

2.8.2 Initial Setup

Although each ECDIS installation may have a different configuration, the following
guidelines will apply as described in the paragraphs below:
1. Prior to initial power-up of the MK2 ECDIS System, ensure that each
component of the system installed has been linked for proper operation.

2. Ensure that all system circuit breakers are energized; all unit power switches
are in the ON position.

3. If the ECDIS system is being turned on for the first time, it will be necessary
to perform the setup procedures for the PathfinderÒ/ST MK2 ECDIS.

2.9.2.1.1 Entering Draft and Ship Information

The following Own Ship Information is required for proper ECDIS function, and can only
be changed with a service dongle.
· Ship’s overall length and beam.
· Antenna positions (as offset from bow and port side) for all navigation positions
devices and radars.

In addition, the following information which is to be entered is for documentation

purposes and can be changed with a service dongle through the Ship Info command un-
der the Integration menu, Fig. 2--18:
· Vessel Name

· Owner’s Name

· Ship’s Yard

· Hull Number

· Max Speed

· Max Rate of Turn

The PathfinderÒ/ST ECDIS System Installation Documentation, Table 2--12 and
Table 2--13 should be completed to document information prior to changing the system
software configuration.

PathfinderÒ/ ST ECDIS uses the provided information for accurate the display of naviga-
tional data. First, it draws the ship symbol so that it is proportional to the specified vessel
size. More importantly, because PathfinderÒ/ ST ECDIS knows where on the ship the
antennas are located, it can offset the ship symbol from that point, giving you an accu-
rate representation of your position relative to other objects. In addition, PathfinderÒ/
ST ECDIS uses the information to more accurately draw tracks and the course line, as
well as to calculate the necessary safety alarms.

After entering the position of each antenna, you will also need to enter a Common Refer-
ence Point position. A Common Reference Point is a position to which each antenna
location is adjusted through a numerical calculation. The adjustment is made so that all
navigation information displayed on ECDIS is from the same common point. This will
provide you with the most accurate navigational information possible. The Common
Reference Point position is labeled DR in the Nav Device drop down list in the Ship Info

dialog box. The Common Reference Point location may be anywhere on the ship, but is
normally at the conning station.

NOTE
If PathfinderÒ/ST ECDIS switches to a lower priority
device, it will automatically use the antenna location
(adjusted to DR) specified for that device.

NOTE
Ship information cannot be entered or changed
without a service dongle installed. This information
should be entered by the service technician at the
time of installation.

2.9.2.7 Monitoring Navigation Device

You can use the Nav Interface command to “monitor” the data PathfinderÒ/ST ECDIS is
receiving from a navigation device. This feature is designed primarily for troubleshooting.

The format of the data should be described in the device’s user’s manual. If the data
sentences are unintelligible (they may contain “Greek” letters or a series of small
squares), then the navigation device may not be properly connected to the computer or
the navigation setup may be incorrect. For a list of abbreviations which might appear in
the data monitor window, please refer to Chapter 1, section 1.3.4.5.

1. Select Nav Interface from the Integration menu or use Keystrokes: <Alt+I+I>,

2.9.3 Navigation Device Priorities

Use the Nav Device Priority command under the Integration Bar Menu, Fig. 2--24, to
specify the type(s) of navigation device(s) you have integrated with PathfinderÒ/ST
ECDIS. If you have integrated more then one device, prioritize all devices.

2.9.4 Used?
Select the type(s) of device(s) you have integrated with PathfinderÒ/ST ECDIS, i.e.,
GPS, Loran-C, Transit, Decca, or Syledis.
We recommend that you select Dead Reckon as an available “device” and assign it a
ID number greater than zero. In the event that all navigation devices fail, you can
simulate your ship’s course using PathfinderÒ/ST ECDIS’s Dead Reckon feature.

2.9.4.1 Custom ID1 and Custom ID2

If you have integrated PathfinderÒ/ST ECDIS with a device not listed, use these boxes
to enter a two letter code for the device. The code must match the one that appears as
the NMEA talker ID in the data sentences output by the device.

2.9.4.2 ID Number
Click on the scroll bars to assign an ID number to each available device.

PathfinderÒST ECDIS can use data from only one device at a time. By prioritizing the
available devices, you tell PathfinderÒ/ST ECDIS which device it should use to position
your ship. (PathfinderÒ/ST ECDIS cannot distinguish between two devices of the same
type; each has the same ID number).

If the device with the highest ID number fails, PathfinderÒ/ST ECDIS will automatically
switch to the device you assigned the next highest priority. To mark the event, Path-
finderÒ/ST ECDIS places a ship mark labeled with a one or two letter abbreviation for
the new navigation device.

NOTE
When positional input deteriorates, PathfinderÒ/ST ECDIS displays a message indicat-
ing the deterioration. PathfinderÒ/ST ECDIS also indicates when a change is made to a
new positioning device.

2.9.4.3 Datum
For each Navigation Device which provides own ship position, you must select the
datum on which geographic coordinates are based.

2.9.7 System Date and Time

There are two methods of changing the Date and Time.

1. Selecting the Exit command under the Main menu bar and using the Utilities
menu.

2. Selecting the Date and Time under the Integration bar menu.

Date/Time option allows the operator to change the date, change the time, and when
using the Utility Menu, the operator may change the time zone of your system’s clock.
You can also select whether or not you want the computer to automatically switch to
Daylight Savings Time.

NOTE
It is important that your system date and time be accurate, since PathfinderÒ/ST
ECDIS uses this data to record important information.

This field provides you with a list of time zones. Each option shows the difference from
Greenwich Mean Time in parenthesis and gives examples of cities and countries in that
time zone.

The date field is divided into three sections (month, day, year) which must be changed
separately. For example, to change the date from March 10, 1995 to March 11, 1995,
you would highlight the day field “10” then click on the up arrow. The “10” would change
to an “11”.

The time field is divided into four sections (hours, minutes, seconds, AM/PM) which must
be changed separately. For example to change the time from 4:14:41PM to 5:14:41PM,
highlight the number “4,” click on the up arrow and the “4” changes to a “5”.

2.12 Radar Overlay Calibrations

On installing the ECDIS, the Radar Overlay Calibration (optional function) is to be con-
sidered, if any.

Prerequisition for the Radar Overlay Calibration:

-- functioning radar
-- installed ECDIS overlay option

Recommendation: If possible, the Radar Overlay Calibrations should

be carried out in the harbor. Sea clutter, rain or
other disturbance variables can make the adjustment difficult.

In the following example of a calibration, the Pathfinder MK2 Radar has been set to
MED1 Pulse. On the ECDIS, the map ”Kieler Bucht” was called up.

2.12.1 Calibration
The Radar Overlay is in detail to be adjusted to the ECDIS chart via the Azimuth rota-
tion, the dimension and the size.
