First Sunday of Advent

Pastor’s Corner ~
ADVENT: SEASON OF HOPE
The season of Advent reminds us of important virtues
to keep our hearts and minds attuned to the spiritual The St. Columba Men’s Club is sponsoring a
meaning of the celebration, even as the world around us community service project—Share Your Christmas
is into material preoccupations. HOPE is an Advent Dinner. The goal is to provide Christmas dinner for
virtue that helped the Old Testament people to transcend several families within our community that need a
their present sufferings and look forward to God’s little extra help. The Men’s Club is requesting
restoration of their freedom and dignity. The Letter of St. donations of non-perishable food items on Sunday,
Paul in the second reading presents a guide on how to December 4th and 11th. Boxes will be located in
live in HOPE and waiting by “throwing off the works of the rear of the church. Parishioners can also help
by making a cash donation to assist with the
darkness and putting on the armor of light.” Jesus teaches
purchase of a turkey for each of the families. Please

and always being prepared for God’s visitation. From the information at 858-277-1232 or 858-277-2324.
Catechism of the Catholic Church (#1818) we learn that
“the virtue of HOPE responds to the aspirations to
happiness that God has put in the heart of every man;
HOPE inspires men’s activities and purifies them so as to
order them for the kingdom of heaven; HOPE keeps us
from discouragement and sustains us in times of
abandonment; HOPE opens our hearts in the expectation
of the eternal beatitude; HOPE helps to preserve us from
selfishness and leads us to happiness that comes from Mass Intentions for the Week
charity.” We know that despite our present difficulties, it
is reasonable to HOPE because the merit of Jesus Christ MONDAY, NOVEMBER 29—ALL SOULS PRAYERS
