Important Notices
TRENDset is the analysis software for respiratory therapy decvises pro-
duced by the company HOFFRICHTER GmbH.
Its main functions are the analysis of therapeutic data and remote
adjustment of the device parameters.
This software is used in the sleep laboratory by medical personal and
by the service.

Installing Software
There are two options for installing TRENDset: NOTE:
1. Installation from CD TRENDset can only be installed
with administrator rights.
2. Download from the HOFFRICHTER-Homepage
www.hoffrichter.de

Installating from CD
Insert the CD in your computer´s optical drive. The Setup will start up
automatically if the Autorun-Function is active. Follow the installation
instructions.
If the .NET-Framework is not installed on your computer, you will be
asked to install the .NET-Framework. Follow the installation instructions.

Installing the Download Version

Execute the TRENDset.zip.exe and unpack the files. The installation
will start automatically.
If the .NET-Framework is not installed on your computer, you will be
asked to install the .NET-Framework. Follow the installation instructions.

Connecting the Device with the Computer

1. Connect the 9pin D-Sub plug1 of the serial cable to the COM interface
of your computer.
2. Connect the RJ11 plug (2) to the device.
3. Connect the device to a grounded contact outlet using the delivered
power cord.

Starting TRENDset
1. When you start TRENDset, the “Intro Window” appears.
2. TRENDset searches automatically for connected devices.

mouse click. Afterwards starts the data import. This process
will take at most 50 seconds. TRENDset changes to the status
Online (see page 14). If no device has been detected under Found
devices no devices will be displayed and TRENDset remains in

tions remain deactivated.
You can also open an existing file. Just click on File. Furthermore you
can read-in data from the SD card. Just click on Read SD card. If TRENDset is connected
with a device, the status

TRENDset is subdivided into 6 function areas:

After the program starts, the function area for Patient Data is always
opened.
If you select another function area, the display in the work area will
change.

NOTE:
The number of function areas and the display in the work area depend
on the type of device.

Working with Files

Opening Files
Select File > Open or in the symbol bar.
Use Ctrl+O to open a file
The dialogue box Open will appear with the preset pathway Own Files quickly.
(Documents)/ TRENDset. The folder TRENDset will be generated the first
time the program is started and will be the standard folder for saving
all files belonging to TRENDset. It can only open files with the exten-
sion .csw or .csa.
Before a new file is opened, TRENDset first checks whether or not all
open data have been saved.
As soon as a file has been opened, TRENDset switches into the status
Offline. If you open a file that was saved to the hard drive from an SD
card, TRENDset switches to the status SD card archive.

Close File
Select File > Close or in the symbol bar.
Closing causes all displayed data from the connected device or file to
be lost. If changes have not already been sent to the device, you will
be prompted to save the changes.
After closing, the status will change from Online to Offline.

Save
Select File > Save or in the symbol bar. Use Ctrl+S to save a file
quickly.
The files will be saved in the folder Own Files (Documents)/TRENDset
with the extension .csw. If a file is saved from an SD card, it is saved in
the folder My Files (Documents)/TRENDset/THERAPY SD_Archive with
the extension .csa.

Save as
With command Save as you can save the open file under another name
or in another directory.

Quit TRENDset
Select File > Exit.
Before quitting, TRENDset checks whether all data have been saved.
If you have not already sent your changes to the device, you will be
prompted to save.

Print

Select File > Print or in the symbol bar. Use Ctrl+P for printing a file

box. You can select the number of events to be printed under
Alerts and Parameter changes.

Setting the Language for TRENDset
Select Settings > Language.
You can choose from several languages. If you need an additional lan-
guage, contact our service. The selection of available languages can
be expanded at any time.

Registration and Deregistration for Service

Personnel
This menu items enables the access to the program’s service area. The
service area offers special actions and additional device data. The access
is password-protected so that only authorized personnel have access.
Registration
Select Settings > Service > Log in.
1. Enter your username.
2. Enter your password.
3. If the service area should be displayed each TRENDset is started,
activate the check box.
4. Confirm with OK.
Deregistration
Select Settings > Service > Log out.

Setting Event Limits for Statistics

Event limits establish if and after how much time the occurrence of
events should be displayed and recorded in the statistics.

Select Settings > Event Limits.

Search Device Manually

If multiple devices have been connected to your computer, apart of the
automatic device search function, you may have access to a particular
system by manual selecting of the respective COM-PORT.

Select Communication > Manual Device Search.

1. Select the COM-Port to which the device is connected.
2. TRENDset searches for a connected device.
a. When a device is detected, the data import starts. This pro-
cess will take at most 50 seconds.
b. If no device is detected, the message “No Connection to Ther-
apy Device” appears. Confirm this with OK. Select another
COM-Port and confirm again with OK. Repeat this procedure
until TRENDset has found the device.
3. TRENDset changes to the status Online (see page 14).

If no device is detected, TRENDset remains in the status Offline (see

page 14). All programming and analysis functions remain deactivated.

Read Device Data

Select Communication > Read Device Data.

memory and a compliance memory. The therapy memory contains all

Using an SD card
There are two ways to store data on an SD card. NOTE:

The last 100 events are saved on the SD card. Events are changes of
parameters such as therapy settings, resetting counters (e.g., filter
counters) etc. The parameters are saved with the date and time they
were changed, as well as the old and new value. All alarms that occurred

Use of the DATA box

The DATA box can store additional data such as oxygen partial pres-
sure and pulse frequency. These data are shown as a curve diagram
in the function area Data and Events.
The data can be read from an SD card on your computer and evaluated.
You will need a card reader device on your computer for this.

Save Data from SD cards

All of a patient’s data can be saved on the hard drive. Read the data Files from the SD card will be

You can change the therapeutic pressure in two ways:

You activate or deactivate the trigger using the On / Off button. The
active state is shown left of the button.

Therapy Pressure Level of therapy pressure

FLEX Level The level of pressure increase or decrease is depending on the flow of breath, the FLEX Levels set
and the therapeutic pressure setting. The three FLEX Levels (1- 3) are for individual adjustment to
the patient.

I-FLEX The value of pressure increase depends on the value of the breathing flow, the set I-FLEX and the set
therapy pressure. The I-FLEX settings (0 – 3) are for individual adjustment to the patients breathing flow.
E-FLEX The value of pressure decrease depends on the value of the breathing flow, the set E-FLEX and
the set therapy pressure. The E-FLEX settings (0 – 3) are for individual adjustment to the patients

Select Device Settings > Respiration.

Softstart Time Time during which the pressure gradually increases
to therapeutic pressure, beginning at the starting
pressure for soft start or at minimum pressure.

Mask Test In a mask test the device is operated at maximum

to test the tightness of mask. The maximum ther-

Activate/Deactivate Mask Alarm
Select Device Settings > Mask Alarm.
You activate or de-activate the mask alarm using the check box. The
active state is displayed left of the button.

Intro Text The intro text is shown when the device starts. It can be a maximum of 2 lines of 16 characters each. You

Working with the Parameter-Popup

The Parameter-Popup is a small dialogue box which contains the essen-
tial functions from Device Settings.

Select Settings > Parameter-Popup or in the symbol bar.

The user interface will close and the Parameter-Popup will open. The
advantage: You can use TRENDset and other applications on the screen
at the same time and continue to control the device.
You can only use the Parameter-Popup in the Status Online, SD-Card
and DATA box.
If necessary you can change the position and size of the Parameter-
Popup. Hold down the mouse and drag the edges of the window.
To close the Parameter-Popup and return to the usual user interface
panel, click on the “x” on the upper right.

Therapy Memory
Approximately 30 days of therapy are stored in the Therapy Memory.

Compliance Memory
When the Therapy Memory is full, the older data are transferred to the
Compliance Memory. The Compliance Memory stores data for approxi-
mately 1 year.
The data from the Compliance Memory are only displayed in the Ther-
apy Calendar and in the protocol from the Therapy Calendar. There
is no display or evaluation of these data in the function area Data and
Events or Statistics.

Efficiency Data Memory

Devices from device software 2.140 have an efficiency data memory.
The following values are saved in the efficiency data memory:
• Apnea index (AI) or apnea-hypopnea index (AHI)
• increased leakage (Leak) in %
• average operating time (Use)
The values are saved for one day, one week, one month, 6 months and
one year, respectively.

If data are transferred incorrectly or incompletely over the serial inter-
face, TRENDset will issue a system message.
If a system message from 1 to 255 is issued, the device has regis-
tered the fault and exported it. For values seen on the following table,
TRENDset has only registered the fault.
