The Notebook
The Notebook
In the film “The Notebook” directed by Nick Cassavetes (2004), he shows us how love can bind people together
forever. This movie impacted me because it makes me feel connected to the theme of the love and forgiveness
through there passionate relationship that survived many obstacles. This film fulfills my thoughts and expectations
on how one person can really love one with such passion.
I felt linked in The Notebook because, of the love and forgiveness that Noah showed to Allie. He still loved Allie
even though she was gone and he had no idea of what she was doing, or that she had fallen in love with someone
else. But that didn’t stop him For example, he wrote letters to her for seven years and never expected a response
back. He showed his forgiveness to her when she came back, He was loving and willing to do anything for her
which is in the scene with them on the lake with the ducks all around them, he wanted to show her what he
thought was beautiful in his eyes and never shared with anybody else. He wanted Allie to stay at his house he had
built for her to make her final decision, he wanted to prove to her he was capable of making her happy even
without money.
Another reason I fell in love with the movie was because, the dedication Noah had done for Allie for example, Noah
had built a house for Allies return he wanted her to feel special and beautiful in any way possible. He felt he could
out shine her fiancé showing her he still knew much more than she thought, wich in the scene with her waking up
to a set paint and a canvas with a note saying “paint me something beautiful”. She was shocked that he
remembered that she loved to paint. Day after day past Allie fell more and more in love with Noah, As her vist was
cutting short she knew she didn’t have love for her fiancé (Lon) any more, she still had love for Noah. She knew it
wouldn’t be okay with her mother because of their life style difference. She was rich and he was poor but that
didn’t matter to her, what mattered was her feelings for Noah and she was willing to do anything for him even if
that meant not having a relationship with her mother.
Films can be more than entertainment. The film taught me that love can be more than a dozen roses and heart
shaped chocolates, more than just a simple I love you and kisses. Love can mean sacrificing to extreme extents,
and willing to love them no matter what shape or condition there in. Just like Allie, she had developed alzheimer
when she got older ending up in a nursery home but that didn’t stop Noah. He was willing to be with her and
wanted her to remember every little detail of their past so he wrote their own love story. The most dramatic scene
for me was with Allie sneaking in the nursery room wear Noah laid in bed, she walked over to the bed grabbing his
hand with passion telling him she remembers. That night he knew all of his waiting for her payed off, When
morning had come nurses walked into Noahs room finding the couple dead but still holding hands. watching that’s
scene brought tears to my eyes making me feel sad and happy at the same time, sad because of how the movie
ended an how she developed alzheimer not even remembering her first love, but happy because through all their
road blocks in their relationship they managed to still love and be together in old age. That is why I choose to write
about this movie.
