Digital switching systems are based on 64 kbps and 2 Mbps rates, using stored program control and a 4-wire network. The CDOT digital switching system is modular and flexible, employing open architecture and time-slot interchange or time switching. It has basic modules for control, interface, and administration that can each interface up to 2000 terminals. Signaling information is exchanged between trunk and switching cards via bidirectional buses.

1. Digital switching is based o 64 KBPS as basic rate and .
2 Mbps primary rate
multiplexing structure. 2. CDOT works on SPC (Stored Program Control) principle. 3. Type of network available in the system is 4 Wire. 4. Maximum digits received from Trunk is 20. 5. Maximum digits received from subscriber is 40. 6. Directory digits including exchange code is 4 to 7. 7. The length of the route code for various routes varies from 1 to 7. 8. Time check is done by Watchdog Timer. 9. Maintenance counter is associated with Fault Processing. 10. Data collection involves Event Registration, Traffic Registration and Detailed Record Registration. 11. CDOT DSS is modular and Flexible Digital System. 12. CDOT MAX employs Open Ended Architecture and employs TST Switching for Inter BM calls and T switching in case of Intra BM calls. 13. All the SWU follows Hot Standby redundancy whereas MFC follows In+1 redundancy. 14. 4 Basic modules in CDOT system are 1.BM .2.IOM 3.CM and 4.AM 15. Each BM can interface up to 2000 terminals. 16. In LCC card analog to digital conversion is using A law of companding. 17. SPC does the Scan and Drive Function. 18. There are 4 TGS ( Terminal Groups ) in one TU ( Terminal Unit) 19. Terminal card does Analog to digital and digital to analog conversion of speech. 20. TC interfaces with SPC for signaling and TIC for Data. 21. TIC generates four TCS signals ( TCS 0 to 3) for card select. 22. TIC generates 3 circuit select signal namely TA0,TA1,TA2 for port select. 23. Signalling information from Trunk cards to SPC via ABCD Bi-directional Bus. 24. SPC scans each TU once in .2 m.sec. 25. In the OFF hook condition the max current is 40 ma and on hook condition it is 10 ma. 26. Current limiting circuit is available in LCC. 27. Each subscriber has got Independent Ringer Relay. 28. For sensing the line status and to detect signaling events OPTO Coupler is used. 29. To avoid cross talk , individual CODEC for each sub is used. 30. CCB has BR relay ( Battery Reversal Relay) in addition to RR and TA relays. 31. All OG signal information are sent on M wire. 32. All incoming signal information are received on E Wire. 33. TTC ( Test Terminal Card ) occupies slot 24 of TU 4 in BM rack. TTC has no interface with SP. 34. TTC has 8 time slots out of which first .2 ports are used. First for BP communication and the second is for testing. 35. ANNC occupies 16 ports out of which 15 ports are used for providing 15 different type of announcements and 16 th port for HDLC communication. 36. SP ( Signalling Processor ) has 16 card select signals – SCS 1 TO SCS 16. 37. Each SCS is on for 125 micro seconds. 38. Drive period is 3.6 micro seconds and scan period is 12 micro seconds. 39. TIC interfaces with Time switch for voice. 40. IOP is an independent module. 41. Fault information will be sent to ADP through HDLC links from BP. 42. CPU card has 6 HDLC links. 43. Memory unit can have 4 cards of .2 MB ( or TME card and BME card 16 MB) 44. Copy 0 of PSU II in BPU and TSU serves only for copy 0 45. Active BPU can have access to Both memory units via BIC & BID.
