MFA setup Version 1.

Multifactor authentication (MFA) is a method of user authentication that requires both knowledge that
only the authorized user knows and a device that only an authorized user possess. Below are steps to secure your
account using MFA by either using the Microsoft Authenticator app on mobile devices or your mobile phone
number.
MFA must first be enabled specifically for your account by the IT Administrator for this to work. If you have been
told it has been enabled, or you get a prompt for more information as shown in figure a, then follow these steps.

Be sure to have both your work computer and mobile device available (whether they are company or self-
provided). Please restart your computer at this point if you did not already.
1. (Laptop) On your laptop, go to https://aka.ms/mfasetup

2. (Laptop) Click Next on the More Information required screen

3. (Laptop) Under step one of the next screen, select your authentication option. The “Authentication
Phone” option is best. Select region, then enter your phone number. For the method, select “Send me
a code by text message”. Then click next.

4. (Laptop) You should now receive a text message. Enter the code, click Verify

5. (Laptop) Copy the provided app password and paste it somewhere safe for use in other applications.
Click Done

All Done! If you wish to use the optional MS Authenticator app on your mobile device, please continue
to next page:

6. Download and install the Microsoft Authenticator app on your mobile device.

7. (Mobile) Once downloaded, launch the Authenticator app on your mobile device. Select Allow. Then you
can select Skip

8. (Mobile) On your mobile device, click through the introduction, hit the “Add account” button, and select
the “work or school account option”.

9. (Mobile) A Camera permission will display, click OK, then the camera app will open.

10. On your laptop, go to https://aka.ms/mfasetup


a. Change the top dropdown box to indicate “Notify me through app”
b. Check the “Authenticator app or Token check box” then click Set up Authenticator app

11. (Mobile) Scan The QR code with your mobile device camera.

12. (Mobile) Tap on the Approve button on your mobile device

13. (Laptop) Click the save button.
