CSR Activity
National Book Store was founded in 1942 by Socorro “Nanay Coring” Ramos who won
the 2004 Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year award.
Every member of the National Bookstore family takes special pride in the institution’s
role as a staunch supporter and promoter of education and reading. These lofty goals are best
highlighted by the numerous projects of the National Book Store Foundation which was
founded in 2004.
Their Vision: “We envision a future where all children are educated and are in schools.”
Their Mission: “We aim to provide every child access to quality education.”
Education is the greatest treasure our parents can give us. But, not every Filipino child
has the privilege of receiving quality education, or even the most basic of school supplies.
Project Aral is NBSFI’s back to school initiative that aims to solicit and gather school
materials which they distribute to students from the most impoverished areas of the country.
A. Effectiveness of CSR Activity: Project Aral of National Book Store Foundation, Inc.
School supplies are always important since it is a mandatory for students to have the
necessary things needed for their studies. The Project Aral program helps not just the children
but also their parents. For example, when a family face a decision, such as keeping their light
on or their children’s belly being full, there is a risk that they won’t have enough budget to the
things that the children needed in their school. Every now and then, these students bear the
burden of knowing that their families cannot provide the classroom supply they needed. When
teachers have students who cannot provide their own materials, it places an incredible burden
and strain on the classroom. How would they ensure these students can participate fully?
Educators are increasingly expected to provide supplementary and even foundational supplies
for their classrooms, often just so they can provide basic curriculum instructions, making it the
rare profession where employee tend to takes money from their own pocket to pay to do their
job. Aside from the students, the Project Aral kit also help both the families and teachers by
providing some of the basic tools a student should be having inside the classroom. If
preparation is the key to success, think of the difference it can make for these children to have
the classroom tools they need. Something seemingly so simple as a pencil and paper has a
tremendous impact in a child’s success in the classroom and in life.
The Project Aral kits are more than just a school supplies. They are a dose of
encouragement. A ray of hope. A key to a better future.
