1. General
1.1 Purpose
Bridge navigation watch alarm system is designed for watching the bridge navigation situation. When officer
on watch(OOW) lose operating ability or fail to take the responsibility due to accident, injuries or security
threat(such as pirate/hijacking), it will alarm to avoid possible sea accident about bridge operation. This system
is in accordance with the requirements of MSC.128(75) resolution and can be used on various ships.

3 Function
3.1 Auto mode
When mode selector switch is on auto mode, as long as bow course or track control system start and stop to
offer normally closed contact for the controller, it will automatically run and start dormancy timing.
3.2 Manual mode
When mode selector switch is on manual mode, bridge navigation watch alarm controller will immediately
run and start dormancy timing.
3.3 Off/Time adjust
When mode selector switch is on Off/time adjust mode, system will not run. In this mode, dormancy time
can be adjusted.
3.4 Visual alarm
Bridge navigation watch alarm system will send visual alarm signal after dormancy time is over.
3.5 First-class audible alarm
If no reset during visual alarm, first-class audible alarm will be sent out after 15 seconds .
3.6 Second-class audible alarm
If no reset during first-class audible alarm, second-class audible alarm will be sent out and VDR output will
be given after 15 seconds.
3.7 Third-class audible alarm
If no reset during second-class audible alarm, third-class audible alarm will be sent out and VDR output
will be given after 90 seconds. (For bigger ship, interval between second-class audible alarm and third-class
audible alarm can be set up to 3 minutes so that substituted pilot or captain have enough time to get to the
bridge).

3.8 Emergency call

Press down Emergency Call button and it will immediately active second-class and third-class long distance
audible alarm and VDR signal output.
3.9 Reset
Press down Reset button and the controller will restart and enter into dormancy status.
3.10 Power failure alarm and Mute
When main power supply or emergency power supply is failure, the controller will send out power failure
alarm signal and audible alarm can be cleared by pressing down Mute button.
3.11 Auto power switchover
When main power supply is failure, bridge navigation watch alarm system will automatically switch to
emergency power supply.
3.12 Dimmer and night light
The controller has function of indicator light brightness adjustment and night light to meet the requirements
of sailing at night.

5 Operation
5.1 Auto mode
Switch on the controller power and turn Mode Selector Switch to Auto position, then Auto indicator light will
be on and other mode indicator lights will be off, system is working on Auto mode. When auto start signal is
valid (bow course or track control system start or stop will offer one normally close contact to terminal RUN
of the controller), Auto Start indicator light will be on and minute indicator light will blink and system will
immediately start dormancy timing.
5.2 Manual mode
Turn Mode Selector Switch to Manual position, then Manual indicator light will be on and other mode
indicator light will be off, system is working on Manual mode; minute indicator light will blink and system
will immediately start dormancy timing.
5.3 Off/Time adjust
1) Turn Mode Selector Switch to Off/Time adjust position,Off/Time adjust indicator light will be on and
digitron will display the time by current setting.
2) Press + or - button can increase or reduce dormancy time and the range is 3min～12min. The digitron will
display the time after set.
3) Turn Mode Selector Switch to other position after time setting and system will automatically save the
latest dormancy time.
5.4 Visual alarm
When the controller is working on Auto or Manual mode, visual alarm indicator light on the controller panel
will show visual alarm signal after dormancy time is over and immediately activate visual alarm indicator on
the alarm button box. During visual alarm, press Reset button on the controller or alarm button box and system
will reset and start new normancy period; it will also close all alarm signal output(except power failure alarm).
5.5 First-class audible alarm
If no reset during visual alarm, first-class alarm indicator light and buzzer on the controller panel will show
first-class alarm signal after 15 seconds and it will also immediately activate first-class audible alarm on alarm
button box. During first-class alarm, press Reset button on the controller or alarm button box and system will
reset and start new dormancy period; it will also close all alarm signal output (except power failure alarm).
5.6 Second-class audible alarm
If no reset during first-class audible alarm, second-class indicator light and buzzer on the controller panel will
show second-class alarm signal after 15 seconds; the controller will also offer passive on-off contact signal
according to overtime alarm time sequence to VDR device, moreover, terminal ALARM2 will output DC24V

according to overtime alarm time sequence and terminal K2 will output passive on-off contact according to
overtime alarm time sequence. During second-class audible alarm, press Reset button on the controller or
alarm button box and system will reset and start new dormancy period; it will also close all alarm signal output
(except power failure alarm).
5.7 Third-class audible alarm
If no reset during second-class audible alarm, third-class indicator light and buzzer on the controller panel will
show third-class alarm signal after 90 seconds; the controller will also offer passive on-off contact signal
according to overtime alarm time sequence to VDR device, moreover, terminal ALARM3 will output DC24V
according to overtime alarm time sequence and terminal K3 will output passive on-off contact according to
overtime alarm time sequence. During third-class audible alarm, press Reset button on the controller or alarm
button box and system will reset and start new dormancy period; it will also close all alarm signal output
(except power failure alarm).
Note: For bigger ship, interval between second-class audible alarm and third-class audible alarm can be
adjusted up to 3 minutes so that the substituted pilot or captain have enough time to get to the bridge.
5.8 Emergency call
When Emergency Call button is pressed down, second-class and third-class alarm indicator light and buzzer on
the controller panel will show alarm signal; it will also offer passive on-off contact signal according to
overtime alarm time sequence to VDR device, moreover, terminal ALARM2 and ALARM3 will output
DC24V according to overtime alarm time sequence and terminal K2 and K3 will output passive on-off contact
according to overtime alarm time sequence.
5.9 Reset
Press down Reset button on the controller or alarm button box and the controller will reset and start new
dormancy period and colse all alarm signal output(except power failure alarm).
5.10 Power failure alarm and Mute
When main power supply or emergency power supply is failure, the relevant power failure indicator light will
blink and buzzer will send out audible alarm, moreover, terminal EK will output passive closed contact. Press
down Mute buton and power failure audible alarm will be cleared and power failure indicator light will be
always bright; when power supply recover, power failure indicator light will be off.
5.11 Dimmer
When Mode selector switch is on Auto or Manual position, press + or - button will increase or reduce the
brightness of indicator light. The controller will automatically save the latest brightness level.

6 Equipment maintenance
6.1 Troubleshooting
Fault 1: Bridge navigation watch alarm controller will not work when power on.
Solution:
a) Check whether there is DC24V to power supply terminals of controller.
b) Check whether positive and negative for power supply is connected correctly.
c) Check whether power switch is on.
d) Check whether fuse is blown.

Fault 2: indicator light is not bright.

Solution:

a) If all indicator lights are not bright, press dimmer + to increase the brightness of indicator light to check
whether indicator lights are bright.
b) If certain indicator light is not bright, check whether this light is damaged.

Fault 3: During alarm, buzzer will not send audible alarm.

Solution: Check whether the buzzer is faulty.

Fault 4: The button is invalid.

Solution: Check the button is faulty.

7 Notice
1. The sectional area of cable core for DC power supply of controller should not be less than 1.5mm2. The
sectional area of cable core connecting the controller with external button should not be less than
0.75mm2.
2. The power supply cable must be connected by correct polarity.
3. Do not open the box to operate when power on.
