Method Statement To Seal The Opening

This document provides a method statement for sealing window openings using mesh and dowel bars. The construction procedure involves roughening the surface, drilling holes, cleaning, installing dowel bars at 600mm centers with 300mm development length, fixing the dowels with concrete, lapping mesh over the dowels at 200mm centers, forming and pouring concrete, curing for at least 7 days. Technical specifications for the bonding agent Nito-bond are also provided, including properties, working life, cure time, and shelf life.

Method Statement

1 SCOPE

This report proposes a suitable method statement to seal the window openings
properly by using mesh and dowel bars. Any clarification required or discrepancies observed
during the progress, shall be taken to the knowledge of the structural consultant through
proper written or E-mail communication.

2 CONSTRUCTION PROCEDURE

1. Roughen the surface up to 20mm minimum around the window opening.

2. Then drill 14 mm hole for a length of 150 mm at 600 mm c/c.
3. Clean the surface thoroughly by air blower and then by a water.
4. Provide dowels of 12mm diameter bars at 600mm c/c spacing with the development
length of 300 mm from face. Provide minimum 2 No’s. in all the four sides.
5. Fix the dowel bars properly by using Re500.
6. After that provide a layer of mesh which shall be lapped with dowel bars by using 8
mm diameter bars with the maximum spacing of 200mm centre to centre.
7. Cover the mould face fully by proper shuttering and cover the other face partially to
pour the concrete.
8. In construction joints, use nito-bond for bonding fresh wet concrete to existing concrete
surfaces.
9. After the application of nito-bond, pour the concrete properly.
10. Concrete shall be thoroughly compacted and fully worked around the reinforcement
and into comers of the formwork.
11. Finally remove the formworks after 16-24 hours and then cure the concrete by using
gunny bags for at least 7 days.
12. The grades of concrete & steel reinforcement shall be same as that of the wall.
