Flow Chart for EHV Transformer
Erection, Testing & Commissioning
Initial Checking: Internal Inspection Checkpoints:
1) Check Core Isolation
1) Packing & Despatch: Check Main tank & acces despatched from 2) No foreign material
works (Dry Air / N 2 with positive pressure. 3) Barrier board & shunt should be intact
2) Receipt Checking: Inspect for transit damage / Internal shifting 4) Check main lead of HV/IV/LV/Tap windings has no
3) Check Core Isolation: Check Core - Frame is intact damage
5) Check internal shipping damage or manufacturing defects
4) Dry Air / N 2Gas Filled Transformer: Check Dry Air / N2 Gas in
6) Check OLTC Contacts
pressure gauge to be positive & Tank valve is in open condition.
7) Check Dust, Insulation, internal connection of FOS
Also check Cylinder is open, Moisture dew point & report to mfg.
8) Bushing lead clearance,
5) Oil Filled Transformer: Check Oil Level as per Mfgr Guideline & 9) Check HV,LV, HVN& other CT internal / secondary
oil BDV, PPM
6) Check Impact Recorder values and analyse with manufacturer Erection: Without opening of blanking
7) Insurance Coverage: Transit & Shifting Damage, Damages during 11) Erection of A Frames, Radiators, Conservators, buchholz
ETC, if noticed. Report to Mfr to cover in Insurance Claim pipeline, breathers
12) Check A Frames & Radiator position
13) Erection of OLTC DM & Bevel Gear Shaft Alignment
Site Preparation: 14) Erection of turrets along with CTs & bushings- HV, LV &
1) Arrangement of tools & tackles, cranes, Neutral
2) Oil Filtration Machine, Selection of Vacuum Pump depending of 15) Checking of Lead Entry after bushing erection
voltage class of transformer, 16) Assembly of Coolers (Radiators / Heat Exchangers),
3) Testing Equipment for preliminary & final testing Conservators & other accessories

Aviability of following documents:

1) Erection & Commissioning Manual
2) GA Drawings Vacuuming Drying & Oil Preparation and Filling:
3) Factory Test Report 1) Simultaneously Oil to be prepared in storage tank
4) Any specific instruction w.r.t. delegate items 2) Vacuuming of main tank - Equalize OLTC & Main tank
3) If moisture is suspected heat the insulation, apply vacuum,
Purging of N2 of -500C & decided no. of cycle to achieve
Receipt, Unloading, Shifting / Sorting of Material:
1) Receipt of main tank and placing on the plinth and align the same desired dew point and then fill oil under vacuum
2) Unload accessory and keep at the designated place
3) Material Shifting & Sorting
4) Checking for any Damage / Shortage / Theft / Leakage Oil Filling & Filtration:
5) Immediately report discrepancies in above cases to Manufacturer to 1) Oil filling & filtration in main tank
cover the same in Insurance Claim, if any 2) Check IR Value during filtration
3) Oil filling & filtration in radiators, both conservators
4) Oil filling & filtration in OLTC (in controlled rate)
5) Mixing of oil of radiator + main tank and final filtration
Before Erection Checkpoint:
6) Check all valves are open condition
1) Inspect Rail Level & distance between rails
7) Fill oil in thermometer pockets
2) Check Plinth & Cooling bank foundations w.r.t. rail line distance &
level (A Frames & Supports) as per approved drawing of particular 8) Release air from all pockets & observe Oil Settling time
make) 9) Final Oil Sample Testing as per contract specification
3) Check for any fouling of fittings & report to Mfgr and get
confirmation for rectification
4) Check MB Foundation does not obstruct withdrawal transformer Electrical Testing:
from plinth Ratio Test, Magnetic Balance Test, Vector Group Test, Winding
5) Check Fire System, MB Foundation & Oil Sump pit are as per drg Resistance Test, Insulation Resistance Test, Core Isolation test, No
6) Check distance between Main tank & Fire Wall should be as per load Losses & Magnetising Current, Load Losses & Impedance
statutory requirement Voltage, Magnetising Current at 415 V, Low Voltage Impedance
Measurement, C & Tan Delta of Winding and bushings, SFRA
Test, Routine Oil test as per IS:1866-2000 & DGA.
Preliminary Testing:
1) Turret CTs & Bushings Functional Testing: Follow the checklist given by O & M for
2) MOG NO/NC Contact & Air Cell Pressure Test do & don’ts before commissioning & seek clearance from OEM
3) Checking healthiness of external connection of FOS thru 1 ph.
supply to control box
Special Attention is required

temperature measuring system
Internal Inspection arrangement:  Installation & Commissioning of On Line DGA system
1) Apply vacuum before internal inspection (3 to 5torr) after equalising  Installation & Commissioning of On Line Dry-out system
the OLTC and main tank) for at least 3 hours. for OLTC
2) Break the vacuum thru Dry air / through breather make necessary  Installation & Commissioning of AVR (Mini RTCC) OR
arrangement. TAPCON230
3) Check Dew Point Before filling & it should be less than -500C  Installation & Commissioning of OLCCMS (DGA +
Bushing + WTI & OTI)
