ECE2025 Probability and Statistical Theory of Communication ETH 1 AC44

This document outlines an ECE course on probability and statistical theory of communication. The course objectives are to discuss concepts of discrete and continuous random variables, illustrate random processes, and understand importance of detection and estimation in digital communication. Expected outcomes are for students to identify distributions for random data, model noise in circuits, design digital transmission systems, and analyze performance issues. The course consists of 8 modules covering topics such as probability, random variables, random processes, information measures, optimum linear systems, testing statistical hypotheses, and estimation theory. Lab experiments involve computation of probability functions and distributions as well as generation of histograms, transformation of distributions, error analysis, and transmission/reception and estimation schemes.
