Research Sharing & Poster Exhibition Infosheet

Research Sharing (RS)


ISYF 2020 will introduce the inaugural Research Sharing (RS), to provide a more intimate setting
to allow international participants to share their research findings and experience with like-minded
peers all over the world. RS provides an avenue for constructive feedback and meaningful
discussions among fellow participants.

Details of Research Sharing


● Format of Presentation
○ Powerpoint Slides (save as .ppt / .pptx file) - ​preferred format
○ OR​ PDF document of Poster (save as .pdf)
● Duration of Presentation
○ 5 minute presentation
○ 3 minutes Q&A segment (Audience will be free to ask any questions pertaining to
the presentation)
● Content of Presentation​ (recommended)
○ Background - Briefly introduce the key problem, research aims and outcomes
○ Methodology - Highlight experimentation process and evaluation of methods
○ Results - Present the outcomes and key takeaway(s) from the research
○ Application and Future work - Explain how the research can be applied and
possible further extensions
● Submission of presentation materials
○ Presenters are to email a soft copy of their slides / PDF to
[email protected]​ ​by ​6th January 2020
○ Presenters are also advised to save their slides / PDF onto a USB thumb-drive as a
backup
● Additional Notes:
○ Project title for Research Sharing should be the same as your poster if you are
participating in the Poster Exhibition as well.
○ Presentation will be projected onto a screen using the organiser’s computer
○ Presentation materials should not be have hyperlinks to external websites (eg.
YouTube) that requires an internet connection to view. All content should be
downloaded and saved within the presentation slides.
○ All images/diagrams used should be credited appropriately

What do I need to prepare before ISYF?


1. Download and complete the ​Research Sharing Registration Form and email it to
[email protected]​ ​by ​18th December 2019
2. Send a soft copy of your ​slides / PDF to ​[email protected] by
6th January 2020
3. Do bring along a USB thumb-drive with your slides / PDF as backup

Poster Exhibition (PE)
Participants will be given the opportunity to showcase their completed research in the form of
posters at the Poster Exhibition. Held alongside the Nobel Grand Ceremony, participants will share
their research with guests and distinguished scientists, and they may even get to interact with
Nobel Laureates!

Details of Poster Exhibition


● Format of exhibition
○ Presenters are to stay at their poster to present their research
○ Presenters may walk around the exhibition to view other posters but they must
ensure that at least one presenter remains at their poster
○ 1-2 minutes sharing with aid of poster ​(recommended)
● Content of Poster ​(similar to Research Sharing)
○ Background - Briefly introduce key problem, research aims and outcomes
○ Methodology - Highlight experimentation process and evaluation of methods
○ Results - Present the outcomes and key takeaways from the research
○ Application and Future work - Explain how the research can be applied and
possible further extensions
● Specifications of Poster
○ Printed in portrait orientation
○ Minimum A1 size poster (59.4 cm x 84.1 cm)
○ Maximum A0 size poster (84.1 cm × 118.9 cm)
○ Soft-back poster (can be rolled up; should not have a hard backing; see Figure 1
below)
○ Organisers will be attaching velcro strips to the back of the posters for the purpose
of the exhibition

● Submission of Poster
○ Participants are to submit their poster upon check-in
○ Participants will be taking down their own posters after the exhibition
● Additional Notes
○ All images/diagrams used should be ​credited appropriately
○ All scientific literature referenced should be ​credited appropriately
○ Ensure font size is sufficiently large to be read from at least a metre away
○ Posters that do not meet the stipulated requirements may be ​rejected
