Clinical Method

The clinical method is used by psychologists, psychiatrists, and teachers to understand individuals' problems like fears, anxieties, and maladjustments. It involves interviewing the individual, gathering information, formulating a hypothesis, making a diagnosis, and creating a treatment plan. The diagnosis process starts with identifying the problem behavior, meeting with parents/teachers, conducting a physical exam, compiling a case history on personal information, environment, and developmental history to investigate the causes of abnormal behavior. The clinical method allows an in-depth study of individuals and their relationships and environments to help maximize their adjustment. However, it is a lengthy and costly method that requires trained specialists and lacks generalizability.
