A. COURSE INFORMATION
NAME AND TITLE Earth Science
CREDIT 1.7 Units for 1 Semester only
COMPONENT Lecture
COURSE DESCRIPTION Earth Science 11 provides:
1. Background knowledge in four major areas of study:
 Astronomy and moon, solar system, stars, galaxies, cosmology (theories of the creation of the universe).
 Geology - rocks, minerals, volcanoes, earth-quakes, plate tectonics, and geological time .
 Oceanography - oceans (circulation, chemistry and physical features).
 Meteorology - atmosphere, weather and climate.
2. Hands-on study of rocks and minerals, earth and water resources, plate tectonic theory, geologic time and surface processes.

GOALS 1. Discuss the different hypotheses explaining the origin of the universe.
2. Describe how the different spheres of the Earth interact.
3. Classify Earth materials.
4. Explain the processes associated with temperature and pressure to the morphology of rocks.
5. Discuss the effects of wind, water, and volcanic activities in sculpting the Earth’s surface
6. Explain the following phenomena (earthquakes, volcanism, mountain building, and plate tectonics)
7. Describe the processes within the oceans and its effects to life.
8. Cite the factors affecting the atmosphere, weather and climate.
9. Familiarize online information portals (PHIVOLCS, PAGASA, MGB, etc.)
PREREQUISITE none
