0. FOREWORD
0.1This Indian Standard was adopted by the Indian Standards Institution
on 22 June 1984, after the draft finalized by the Fire Fighting Sectional
Committee had been approved by the Civil Engineering Division Council.
OZdplon 1211 is a halogenated hydrocarbon used a: a fire extinguishing
. Tt IS a colourless famtly sweet smellmg electrically non-conductive
gas having a boiling point -4°C. This media is effective where an electri-
cally non-conductive medium is essential or desirable. Some of the
important types of hazards this media can protect include gaseous and
liquid flammable material electrical hazards, and combustible such as paper
wood and textiles.
0.3 For the purpose of deciding whether a particular requirement.of this
standard is complied with, the final value, observed or calculated, express-
ing the result of a test or analysis, shall be rounded off in accordance with
IS : 2-1960*. The number of significant places retained in the rounded off
value should be the same as that of the specified value in this standard.
1. SCOPE
1.1 This standard specifies requirements for bromochlorodifluoromethane
( halon 1211 ) used as a fire extinguishing media.
2. REQUIREMENTS
2.1 It shall comply with the requirements given in Table 1. The various
methods of test are given in 3.
3. METHODS OF TEST
3.0 For all tests except the determination of halogen ion, the sample shall
be taken from the liquid phase.

4. PACKING
4.1 Material shall be packed in gas cylinder conforming to IS : 3196-19747.
Material shall be filled to 75 percent of filling ratio.

5. MARKING
5.1 Each container shall be legibly and indelibly marked on the outside
with the following:
a) Manufacturer’s name and trade-mark, if any;
b) Month and year of manufacture;
c) The words ‘Halon 1211’ in prominent letters;
d) Source, year of manufacture of the cylinder and its test pressure;
e) The empty mass of the cylinders;
f) Filled mass of the cylinder; and
g) Details of the IS1 Certification Mark ( if applicable )_
5.1.1 Halon 1211 conforming to this standard may also be marked with
the IS1 Certification Mark.
NOTE -The use of the ISI Certification Mark is governed by the provlsions
of the Indian Standards Institution ( Certification Marks ) Act and the Rules
and Regulations made thereunder. The ISI Mark on products covered by an
Indian Standard conveys the assurance that they have been produced to comply
with the requirements of that standard under a well-defined system of inspection,
testing and quality control which is devised and supervised by ISI and operated
by the producer. IS1 marked products are also continuously checked by ISI for
conformity to that standard as a further safeguard. Details of conditions under
which a licence for the use of the IS1 Certification Mark may be granted to
manufacturers or processors, may be obtained from the Indian Standards
Institution.
