ISE Project

This document describes a paper flower vase that provides environmental benefits over plastic products. It is made entirely from recycled paper, which stores carbon and requires less energy and resources to produce compared to virgin paper. Using recycled paper also reduces waste sent to landfills, where decomposition emits the potent greenhouse gas methane. The paper vase is a sustainable and eco-friendly alternative to plastic that decomposes within years rather than centuries.

PAPER FLOWER VASE/

PEN STAND

Making of paper flower vase

Step 1: Cut Papers ( any waste paper like old
newspaper or magazine)
Step 2: Roll the Paper Strips
Step 3: Start connecting the rolled Strips
Step 4: Make Rings using rolled strips for making base
Step 6: Glue All 4 Segments Together

Sustainable products are those products that provide environmental, social and
economic benefits while protecting public health and environment over their whole life
cycle, from the extraction of raw materials until the final disposal.

This flower vase is made up completely of paper .Paper is based on wood, a natural and
renewable material. As young trees grow they absorb CO2 from the atmosphere.
Furthermore, as a wood product, paper also continues to store carbon throughout
its lifetime. This is made by recycling waste or used papers. From protecting forests to
curbing climate, recycled paper use is essential for sustainability. With the below reports produced
by Green America and our allied organizations, we make the case for using recycled paper,
including the many ways it benefits the environment. One way to protect the environment is
by offering environmentally friendly, or green, products. Green products are defined as
products that minimize the environmental impact of their consumption

Recycled paper use saves resources and reduces the paper industry's impact on the planet.
Using 100% recycled copy paper instead of 100% virgin fiber paper saves:

 100% of the trees,

 31% of the energy,

 53% of the water, and produces

 39% less solid waste.

If you don't recycle your used paper and instead throw it into the trash, it goes where all trash goes
-- to the landfill. The EPA cites landfills as the single largest source of methane emissions to the
atmosphere, and has identified the decomposition of paper as among the most significant sources of
landfill methane. A potent gas with 21 times the heat-trapping power of CO2, methane is a major
contributor to global climate change.
This model has great advantage over plastics products . Almost 7 million tonnes of plastic waste is
dumped into the ocean every year and due to the non-biodegradable nature of plastics, their
decomposition takes hundreds of years.
Use of the product:
To keep decorative flowers
To keep pen ,pencils and other items
 Used as a decorative element in table
Applied in home and apartments

Scope for improvement

Plastic flower vase / pen stand have a bad reputation and with good reason. It takes
centuries for one to dissolve after ending up in a landfill, while paper decomposes
much more faster and easily. In fact, according to an article in Slate magazine, plastic
bags do not biodegrade at all, so you would have to wait for UV rays to destroy it,
which can take anywhere from 500 to 1,000 years or more. Also, the Environmental
Protection Agency points out that 12 million barrels of oil are used in the US alone to
produce plastic bags.
Recycling Options
Paper flower vase are made at least partially from recycled paper or fiber .Research
from MSNBC shows that most paper bags contain at least 35 percent recycled
material, but many companies use much more than that. Once discarded, they can also
be recycled again, while plastic bags cannot be recycled or many factories don’t
accept them because they can clog machines and complicate the recycling process.
You can even tear paper bags into small pieces and add them to your compost pile.
