VOR APPROACH REVIEW

Tips: Draw HP altitude wind on chart


Record QNH on chart
Write Q D F M A L B H on chart

1. TAF / ATIS / AWRB reviewed


2. QNH set
3. Surface wind known, runway for landing decided
4. Cloud base known, expectation at minima
5. Frequency set, identified, track set, tested
6. LSALT / MSA known, top of descent decided
7. HP entry heading and outbound timing decided
8. Inbound track known
9. Minimum altitude in HP known
10. Intermediate approach track, time, minimum
altitude
11. Base turn altitude
12. Final approach track and MDA - -100’, + 50’ 130
kts max IAS
13. Circling approach intentions, MDA
14. Missed approach track and altitude
15. Intentions after missed approach?

Inbound calls at ten minutes inbound


16. Call on CTAF – notify upper limit of airwork.
17. Tell ATS upper limit of airwork, you will enter the
HP and report prior to starting the approach.

Top of descent checks at TOD or 5 minutes inbound


18. QNH set
19. DI and compass aligned
20. Fuel selection correct
21. Mixture adjusted or rich
22. Audio up – correct ident
23. Landing light ON
24. Brakes pressure normal
25. Harnesses secure
26. Disconnect autopilot or fly in OMNI mode
27. Set heading bug to HP entry heading

28. Relax and be ready – fly over aid

At station passage:
29. Turn at correct moment
30. Timing starts outbound
31. Talk – talk to ATS and later on CTAF
32. Configure – power set for HP, flap if necessary,
fuel pumps ON
