AGENDA
• Overview of embedded
analytics
Analytics
• Panel session
Everywhere!
• Audience Q&A
OVERVIEW
What is it? application

• Embedding analytics takes one analytics

application and puts it into another application or
process.
• It brings the results of analysis to the decision
maker and to applications that run the business.
• It opens analytics up to more users and hence
makes analytics actionable and more valuable.
Many use cases for embedded analytics

• Embedded dashboards and

visualizations
– E.g., in customer facing applications or business
applications
• Embedded analytics in systems,
databases
– E.g. fraud detection, next best offer,
recommendation engines
• Embedded analytics in devices
– Predictive maintenance
Operationalizing analytics is a top priority
A top 3 reason in two areas:

65% Technology success strategy: 65% believe that operationalizing analytics is

a top technology strategy for success with analytics

38% Area for improvement: 38% cite operationalizing analytics as a top area for
improvement, from an organizational perspective

WHY? Because it makes analytics actionable and more pervasive

A majority of respondents embed analytics

66% of respondents use some

sort of embedded analytics

QUESTION 1: Why do you see companies
embedding analytics? What makes it so valuable?
Why is it so important?
Importance of Embedded Analytics
• Organizations recognize the
importance of embedded
analytics.
• Similar results for:
- Big-data analytics

Embedded Analytics Enables Self-Service
• More than half (53%) report
users can’t perform their
own analyses without IT
involvement.
• Those that can report
greater satisfaction.
• Embedded analytics makes
self-service more attainable.

QUESTION 2: What trends do you see in of
embedded analytics? For instance, how is
analytics being embedded in applications? Are
APIs becoming more popular?

Embedded is The Only Option at The Edge
• IoT is creating more
demand for analytics at the
edge.
• Majority (53%) consider
processing at the edge
important.
• Unlikely to do ad hoc
analytics at the edge.

QUESTION 3: How do organizations get started
embedding analytics? What are some best
practices for designing embedded analytics apps?
How to Get Started with Embedded Analytics
• Prebuilt dashboards and reports are the easiest way to start.
- Build the data models .
- Integrate data sources.
- Consider external data sources.
- Ensure they are parameterized /customizable.
• Next step: offer recommended actions.
- Use AI/ML to determine next best action.
- Offer it as a recommendation before automation.
- Once trust is established can automate.
• Design from the outside in, rather than inside out.

QUESTION 4: Automation is becoming important
across the whole analytics life cycle. How do you
see automation playing into embedded analytics?

Automation Requires AI/ML and Embedded Analytics
• AI/ML provides the brains
behind automation.
• Can’t automate if it’s not
embedded into business
processes.
• Organizations prefer
embedded solutions.
