Factors Affecting Climate

The document provides a detailed lesson plan for a science class on factors that affect climate. The objectives are for students to be able to identify factors that affect climate, explain how different factors affect climate, and show awareness of climate change issues. The lesson plan involves students working in groups on different climate-related topics like latitude, altitude, distance from ocean, and topography, then presenting their findings to the class.

I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content The learners should be able to demonstrate understanding of
Standards the factors that affect climate, the effects of changing climate, and how to adapt to
them.
B. The learners should be able to participate in activities that
Performance reduce risks and lessen effects of climate change.

C. Learning S9ES-IIIe-30
Competencies Explains how different factors affect the climate of an area.
D. Specific At the end of the lesson, students are expected to attain the following objectives
objectives with a at least 80% proficiency level:
a. Identify the factors affecting climate;
b. Explain how different factors affect the climate; and
c. Show awareness to the worldwide issue regarding climate change.
Factors that Affect Climate
 LATITUDE – when the area is farther from the equator, the air temperature is
lower resulting in a cold climate. When the place is closer to the equator, the
air temperature is higher which results in a warm climate.
 ALTITUDE – the air temperature decreases as the altitude increases. Places
with higher elevations have cold temperature.
II. CONTENT  DISTANCE from the OCEAN – a body of water circulates the warm air and
cold air. It absorbs more heat and can slowly release heat making the
change in temperature of a country moderate.
 TOPOGRAPHY – one of the topographic features of an area is mountain.
Mountainous areas greatly affect the amount of precipitation in a certain
region.

Whenever you plan to have a picnic, what are
the things you usually consider?
Time, place, and weather.
Weather affects your day-to-day activities. How
does weather differ from climate?
Weather is the condition of the atmosphere at a
specific place and time while climate is the general
pattern of weather in a certain area over a long
period of time.

B. Establishing purpose
Let’s play a game.
I have here a card containing sentences. I will
roll the dice to determine the item to be
answered and pick a name of the students in
the box to answer or give what is asked.

What do you think is our topic for today?
Factors affecting Climate.

Very Good. But before we go to the proper

discussion of our topic, let us all be guided by
our objectives this morning.
At the end of the lesson, students are expected to
attain the following objectives with a at least 80%
proficiency level:
a. Identify the factors affecting climate
b. Explain how different factors affect the climate
c. Show awareness to the worldwide issue
regarding climate change
C. Presenting
examples/instances of the new lesson

Let’s have an activity. I will divide the class into

4 groups: (According to the colored papers
pasted under their armchair) Each group will
be given an envelope with their assigned task
inside and work for it for 5 minutes. Given 3
minutes, they will present their output to the
class. Each group will select a leader,
secretary, and presenter.

Groups Topic
Blue Latitude
Yellow Altitude
Violet Distance from the Ocean
Pink Topography

You will be rated according to the Rubrics.

F. Developing mastery
I have here a Video Presentation. I want you to
pay attention and you may also jot down notes
so you will be able to answer the questions
below.

GUIDE QUESTIONS:
1. What are the greenhouse gases that
were mentioned in the video?
2. What are the roles of these gases?
3. What are the human activities that
increase the effects of Global Warming?
4. Explain how Greenhouse effect
happens.
Answers
1.Methane, carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide
2. Regulates the temperature of the Earth
3. burning large amount of coal, oil and natural
gases
4. Greenhouse effect happens when greenhouse
gases allow solar radiation to enter the Earth’s
atmosphere and prevent heat from escaping.

G. Finding practical
applications
What are some impacts of Climate Change to
people and animals?
 Strong typhoons
 Extinction of some animals
 Loss of lives
 Destruction of agricultural crops
How can you lessen the harmful effects of
Climate Change?
 by reforestation
 construction of houses that can sustain
strong winds
 make clothes that can protect us against
extreme temperature
 construct improvised boat in preparation for
flooding
H. Making generalizations
and abstractions
Now, I have here a diagram containing the
factors affecting climate. All you have to do is
to write on the sheets of colored paper on how
those factors affects climate. Understand
class?
