Case Study – 1
Pollution Analysis
Central Government want to analyse about the pollution from land transportation vehicles. So
they’ve approached you and asked you to analyse the transport vehicles’ contribution to the
pollution. They would like you to create a database which provides information about the
vehicles in each state.
People of the country use 2, 3, 4 wheelers or Railways for travelling daily. They buy the
vehicles from different companies which produce at least one type of vehicle from the three.
These companies havedifferent prices for each type of vehicle. Based on the company, the
pollution ejecting value changes for each type of vehicle.
Also, there is a limited time period for which a particular type of vehicle can be used
before it becomes harmful for the environment. For recycled motors, this time period could be
very less. These recycled vehicles also have exceptional pollution ejecting values which
makes their life time lower. This parameter can also be taken into account while doing the
analysis.
As the trains use coal, they also contribute for pollution. They have separate pollution
ejecting values. Use this whole info for creating databases and analysing pollution in the
country.

Hostel Management
Sarvam hostel wanted to create an online portal for room bookings. So, they wanted you to
develop a data base which stores the information about the hostel and its facilities.
Each of the five floors in the hostel has different number of rooms and based on their
size. Each room can accommodate different number of people based on the comfort level and
number of beds booked. There are both AC and NON-AC rooms in the hostel. The rooms can
have an attached or common bathroom. Fee for hostel is different based on the facilities you
select.
A person have to give their details like name, phone number, address and identity card
number. Then they get to choose from the vacant rooms available and pay the minimum fee
for registration.
Case Study – 3
The cars rented in a particular location may be returned to a different location. For every car
we keep the odometer reading before it is rented and after it is returned. Since we trust our
customers, we do not record the defect when the car is rented out and returned. However, we
rent the car with a full tank and record the volume of gas in the tank when the car is returned,
but we only indicate if the tank is empty, quarter full, half full, three-quarters full, or full.
We keep track of which day a car was rented, but not of the time, similarly for car returning.
If a customer requests a specific class-, we may rent the customer a higher-class car if we do
not have the requested class in the stock, but we will price it at the level the customer
requested. Each car class has its pricing, but all cars in the same class are priced the same.
We have rental policies for days, weeks, and months. For example, if a customer rents a car
for 8 days, it will be priced as 1 week + 1 day. The drop-off charge only depends on the class
of the rented car, the location it was rented from and the location it is returned to.
About our customers, we keep their verified details. About our employees, we keep the same
information. We have several categories of workers, drivers, cleaners, clerks, and managers.
We charge the car rental based on the car type, employee type, and duration of the car rental.
Every employee works in one location only. We have headquarters in Vijayawada. The
people who work there are all classified as managers, one of them is the president, two of
them are the vice-presidents, one for operation, the other for marketing.
