Binary Logic - Practice Exercise

1) Amar, Bhaskar, and Charan answered questions about what color dress they were wearing. 1. A company has three types of people, liars (who always lie), truth
tellers (who always speak truth) and alternators (who alternate
between truth-and lie in any order). Each of them is wearing a different
coloured dress among red, green and- yellow. Three persons of the
company answered to a question in the following manner.

Amar: Bhaskar is wearing yellow coloured dress.


l am not a liar.
Charan is a liar.

Bhaskar: Charan is not wearing green coloured dress.


I am not a truth teller.
Amar is a truth teller.

Charan: I am not a truth teller.

Amar is wearing red coloured dress.

Bhaskar is not a liar.

Identify who is wearing what colored dress.

2. Tarun while walking on the road reached a point where the road
splits into two roads, one towards east and the other towards west.
One of the two roads leads to the stadium. Tarun met three persons
Rajesh, Sudheer and Praveen, who belong to the category alternators
who always alternates between the truth and lie in any order. Tarun
got the following replies when he asked, “which road leads to the
stadium?"

Rajesh : I am taller than Sudheer.


Go towards west to reach the stadium

Sudheer : Rajesh is not shorter than me.


Praveen is the tallest.

Praveen: Both the statements of Rajesh are true.


I am the tallest.

Which of the following statements is true?


(1) The east ward road leads to the beach.
(2) Praveen is not the tallest.
(3) Sudheer is the shortest.
(4) None of these .

3. The people of the "Bolo-Kaun" tribe always make two statements
while replying to any question. Om, Jai and Jagdish belong to “Bolo-
Kaun" tribe. One among the three always speaks truth and is known as
Truth-teller, one always tells lies and is known as a liar and one-always
alternates between the truth and lie in any order and is known as
alternator. When a police asked them: “Who among you is the
murderer?”, their replies were as follows.

Om: I am the murderer.


Jai is a liar.

Jai: I am the murderer.


Jagdish is a liar.

Jagdish: Jai is the murderer.


Om is a liar.

It is known that only one among Om, Jai and Jagdish is the murderer.

4. In the Oscar award ceremony, Smith, Carrey and Nolan were
nominated for the awards -Hero No. 1 and Zero-No; 1. The awards
were given to two persons. When the reporters asked them about the
awards, each of them made two statements as follows. It is known that
one among them always speaks truth, one always lies and the-other
one alternates between truth and lie in any-order.

Smith: I did not get any award.


Nolan got the Hero No.1 award.

Carrey: I got the Hero No. 1 award.


Nolan got the Zero No.1 award.

Nolan: I got the Hero No. 1 award.


Smith got the Zero No. 1 award.

If at least one of the statements made by Carrey is a lie, then who got
the Hero No. 1 award?

5. One day I met three persons - Amar, Akbar and Antony. Each of them
belonged to a different tribe. One among the three always speaks truth
and is known as truth-teller, one always tells lies and is known as a liar
and one-always alternates between the truth and lie in any order and is
known as alternator. When I asked to introduce themselves, each of
them made two statements, as given below.

Amar: I am a truth-teller.

Akbar is the liar.

Akbar: I am not a liar.

Antony is not a truth-teller.

Antony: I am a truth-teller.

Amar is an alternator.

Who among them is the liar?
