TEACHING SESSION GUIDE FOR ALS

Teaching is never the same all the time; it depends on the sign of times, kinds of learners and the purpose.
It is dynamic.

Our responsibility in today’s education is to make learners self-sufficient or self-regulated to be able to


survive in the changing world. Hence, this Activity-based worksheet was conceptualized. It has provided
the learners (1) Pre-test to check learners prior knowledge about the topic of the day. A concept note which
is the reference of information they needed, to understand and able to do any task efficiently and correctly;
and (2) the checking for understanding (CFU) activity, which assesses learners’ understanding of the
concept notes.

This Activity-Based Learning (ABL) worksheet can be flexibly used:

Option 1: When classes are held only for one or two-days per week or if teacher cannot meet the class
due to some reasons.

a. Let the learners bring the ABL worksheet at home and ask them to copy it in their notebook and
answer the pre-test and CFU.
b. When they come for class, the teacher does a priming activity to activate prior knowledge
c. Teacher conducts processing of the learners’ responses and asks of the activity’s impact on them.
Usually the questions ask touches the three components of thoughts, feelings and behaviors like
the example below:
i. what reactions or feelings did the process of doing the activities trigger in you?
ii. what learning did you gain as a result of going through the activities?
iii. what actions or decisions did you consider after conducting these activities?
d. Teacher gives the Synthesis activity for the learners to summarize core ideas or essential
understanding and be able to fully internalize, integrate and apply in their lives.

Option 2: When classes are conducted for 4 days in a week.


a. Ask learners to read concept notes
b. Assists learners in their understanding of the concept note by doing interactive lecture (Question
and Answer)
c. Ask learners to copy in their notebook the pre-test and answer it and copy the CFU and answer the
exercises or do the tasks. Check on their task and do letter ‘c’ and ‘d’ as mentioned above.

Option 3: Multigrade Classes-Teacher can hold class with learners of different grade levels doing their
grade level worksheet.

Life is pretty much, what we give it. The more we invest in life, the more benefits we get. When we
implement our ALS Worksheet, let me invite you to have an open mind and be motivated. The time
and effort spent in touching and changing lives and forming them into productive individuals is
worth trying….
