This document contains four quantitative analysis problems related to linear programming: 1) A cookie store problem to maximize profit by determining batch sizes of three cookie types given ingredient constraints. 2) A graphical linear programming problem to be solved graphically. 3) A coal mining and shipping problem to supply three cities given mine production amounts and shipping costs between mines and cities. 4) An employee assignment problem to minimize total time to assign five salespeople to cover five regions given their coverage times in each region.

1.) The Cookie Monster Store at South Acres Mall makes three types of cookies—chocolate chip, pecan
chip, and pecan sandies. Three primary ingredients are chocolate chips, pecans, and sugar. The store has
120 pounds of chocolate chips, 40 pounds of pecans, and 300 pounds of sugar. The following linear
programming model has been developed for determining the number of batches of chocolate chip cookies
pecan chip cookies and pecan sandies to make to maximize profit:

Solve this model using the simplex method.

2.) Solve the following linear programming model using the graphical method:

3.) Coal is mined and processed at the following four mines in Kentucky,West Virginia, and Virginia:
These mines supply the following amount of coal to utility power plants in three cities:

The railroad shipping costs ($1,000s) per ton of coal are shown in the following table. Because of
railroad construction, shipments are now prohibited from Cabin Creek to Richmond:

4.) The Omega pharmaceutical firm has five salespersons, whom the firm wants to assign to five sales
regions. Given their various previous contacts, the salespersons are able to cover the regions in different
amounts of time. The amount of time (days) required by each salesperson to cover each city is shown in
the following table. Which salesperson should be assigned to each region to minimize total time? Identify
the optimal assignments and compute total minimum time.
