Essay On Vocation

Vocation refers to responding to a call beyond oneself to use one's strengths and gifts through service, creativity, and leadership to improve the world. Vocation is established through moral and spiritual discernment to understand God's will and help strengthen a commitment to life. In discernment, obstacles like being seduced by an unsuitable character or lacking moral strength can prevent finding one's vocation. To overcome obstacles requires effort to listen to God's voice and turn one's attention to God, as choosing a vocation in religion or service allows gradual development of a relationship with God to live a full Christian life.

What is Vocation?
Vocation is one’s response to a call from beyond oneself to use one’s strengths
and gifts to make the world a better place through service, creativity and leadership.
The concept of vocation lies on the belief that life is about more than me. It is rooted in
character and commitment to the value of others .It is about growing into a person who
focuses their life beyond themselves. It is about living life in such a way that I can make
a positive contribution to the world. With this, we can find meaning in our endeavours
and purpose in life.

What is the importance of vocation in moral discernment?

Vocation helps a person to understand not more about “what to do” but rather
how to place oneself before God and to better understand what the Lord wills. Vocation
is established by our moral discernment as well as spiritual discernment in which the
goal is to help us strengthen or to consolidate our option for life. However if we
encounter obstacles in discernment, this could prevent us from finding our vocation.
Such obstacles may be when we let ourselves be seduced from a character not suited
to the religious life or having insufficient moral strength. To overcome this, we must
exercise effort to hear out God’s voice. This signifies us to turn one’s attention to God.
Our chosen vocation may it be religious or in service to others helps us gradually
construct our relationship with God and be able to live the fullness of a Christian life as
we are dearly called for.
