Arithmetic Sequences

This lesson plan is for teaching arithmetic sequences in a 10th grade mathematics class. The objectives are for students to illustrate arithmetic sequences, appreciate their uses, and solve general forms. The lesson will use examples and practice problems to teach how to identify common differences in sequences and use the formula to find terms. Students will complete practice problems to find specific terms and solve word problems involving arithmetic sequences. Their understanding will be evaluated through similar problems to solve for terms and sequences.

e. Time Allotment: 1 Session
III- LEARNING STRATEGIES

a. Preparation

Prayer
Checking of Attendance

b. Motivation

The teacher post a simple addition of numbers on the board and the students will answer.

c. Lesson Proper

The teacher presents the Arithmetic Sequences is defined as a sequence in which there is a
common difference between consecutive terms.
Which of the following sequences are arithmetic? Identify the common difference.

1. 3,  1, 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, . . .
2 . 15.5, 14, 12.5, 11, 9.5, 8, . . .
3. 84, 80, 74, 66, 56, 44, . . .

To solve the general form of an arithmetic sequences, you can use the formula
Afterwards, the teacher presents examples.
Example 1.

Example 2.

d. Application (Board work)

Solve the following problems completely.

1. Given : 3, 12, 21, . . . . Find A10
2. Given : 5, 12, 19, . . . . Find : What term number is 61 ?

IV- EVALUATION

A. (5 points each)

Solve the following problems completely..

1. Find the 25th term of the arithmetic sequences 3,7,11,15,19, . . .

2. Which term of the arithmetic sequence is -18, given that a1 = 7 and a2 = 2 ?

V- ASSIGNMENT

Use the nth term of an arithmetic sequence An = a1 + (n-1) d to answer the following questions.

1. Find the common difference of the arithmetic sequence with a4= 10 and a11 = 45.
2. How many terms are in an arithmetic sequence whose first term is -3, common difference is 2 , and last
