Learning Episode 1:
A. MOTIVATION
1. Presentation Today we will study on how to infer that circular motion requires the
Today, we will learn to identify situations in which work is done and in which no work is done.
application of constant force directed toward the center of the circle.
2. Importance It is important to learn to identify situations where work is done or not done so that ample preparation must be considered prior to
Acquainting to the concepts of Newton’s Second Law of Motion: Law of
performing any activity.
acceleration is important so that we will be able to infer that circular motion
requires the application of constant force directed toward the center of the
circle.
3. Formative Assessment Each of you will identify situations where work is done and where work is not done.
At the end of the lesson, each student will infer that circular motion requires
the application of constant force directed toward the center of the circle.
Work is a method of transferring energy where force is applied to the object and the object moves a distance in the direction of the applied
force.
Force is a push or pull upon an object resulting from the object’s interaction with another object.
The teacher will ask the students to define centripetal and centrifugal
force. Displacement is the object’s overall change in position.
Then, the teacher will further ask the students to state Newton’s Second Law
of Motion. The teacher will then let the students read the definition of each term together a number of times.
The teacher will let the students give their own definition based on their understanding.
2. Pre-requisite Skills
Learning Episode 2:
A. Modelling The teacher will show a picture of a ride in a theme park.
The teacher will show the concept
diagram.
1. The teacher will model how to identify whether a situation shows work is done or not done.
2. The teacher will push the wall with her two hands. He will let the students to do the same.
3. The teacher will say, “When I push the wall, I exerted a force. The force I exerted does not make the wall move; hence no work is
done on the wall.”
4. The teacher, together with the students, will push a chair. The teacher will say “When I push the chair, I exerted a force. The force I
exerted makes the chair moves a distance in the direction of the applied force; hence work is done on the chair.”
5. The teacher will carry a notebook on her hand. The same situation will be done by the students. Together with the students, they
will roam around the classroom.
The teacher will say “When I roam around the classroom carrying the notebook, I exerted a force. The force I exerted does not make the
notebook move in the same direction of the applied force; hence no work is done on the notebook.
Learning Episode 3:
A. Guided Practice Note: for Second Day Guided Practice
B. Independent Practice
Guided Practice 1. The teacher will ask the students to sit with their partners.
The teacher will show the picture to the class. 2. The teacher will ask the students to place their bags below their chair. Their partner will lift their bags and will place it in the
armchair.
3. The students will then identify if there is work done on the bag.
4. The teacher will then let the students wear their backpacks. Together with their partner, they will roam around the classroom. They
will then identify if there is work done on the bag.
For the teacher:
When I roam around the classroom carrying the bag on my back, I exerted a force. The force I exerted does not make the bag move
in the same direction of the applied force; hence no work is done on the bag.
The teacher will let his/her students fill-in the concept diagram and infer
what is in the picture.
“The ball is moving in a circular path because the boy is exerting a constant
force on the string. If the boy will change the amount of force exerted on
the string, the ball will move away or towards the center of the circular
path.”
Independent Practice
The
teacher will
show again
another
picture.
The students will fill-in the concept diagram and infer what is in the
picture.
The object tied on the string is moving _____________________________
