Brainpop supports UDL in the following ways:
● Brainpop is full of videos on any subject and even has a video on the causes of the American
Revolution. This is a great way for students who have attention issues to stay engaged and learn the
content that they are required to understand. Videos can also be rewatched as needed.
● The website has an option to play the videos in different languages such as French and Spanish. This
feature helps English language learners who might not understand English very well.

Lesson idea implementation: To begin the lesson on the American Revolution, the class will watch the
Brainpop video on the Causes of the American Revolution. After the video the teacher will review the main
causes of the American Revolution through a Powerpoint presentation. The teacher will go over the French
and Indian War, 1765 Stamp Act, the activities of the Sons of Liberty, the activities of the Daughters of Liberty,
Boston Massacre, and the Boston Tea Party. Once the teacher has discussed all of the main events she will
then have the students split up into groups of 3 or 4.

Each group will then be assigned a major event that caused the American Revolution. Each group will be
responsible for making a poster on their assigned event. The teacher will provide the students with posters.
The poster must include what event they were given, when the event took place, and details of the event and
its impact on the American Revolution. Students posters must include 1 or 2 pictures of the event in which
they were assigned. Students will then be required to present their poster to the class. Students will be able
to use computers to look up information on their topic as well as to find pictures on their topic. The teacher
will grade the students based on the information that they have displayed on their poster.

Reflective Practice: To extend this lesson to a higher LoTi level, students can be asked to make a video or
website that explains their event. As a group the students will create a video or website with all the required
content to explain to their peers what this event was about and how it impacted the American Revolution.
This way all students have access to their final presentations and can use these pieces of technology to review
the causes of the American Revolution.
