Maps are flat. Contour lines tell us the shape of the land. This is useful if you’re going
for a walk or riding a bike. You can plan the best route.
Contour lines tell us the number of metres above sea level. Sea level is 0 metres.
When the contour lines are close together, they tell you there is a steep hill. When the
contour lines are far apart, they tell you that the land is flatter.
