Lesson Plan Rational Equations Lemons

The document outlines a lesson plan on rational equations with the following key points: 1. The objectives are for students to define rational equations, simplify rational equations, and apply procedures to simplify rational equations. 2. The lesson uses strategies like guided discovery learning, exposition, and cooperative learning to teach about rational equations over 45 minutes to an hour. 3. The lesson proper involves an activity where students multiply values in a table to simplify rational expressions, as well as a "Find Your X" game to review solving equations for x.

Daily Routine

Can everyone stand up and let’s start our day with a Students will recite the prayer
prayer.

Good morning Class! Good morning Ms Sheryll

You may now take your seats.

Introduction

Today, we are going to begin working with rational

expressions. If you think back to rational numbers, we
know that a rational number is written in fraction form
where a/b, and b can never be 0. So we know that
fractions, decimals and mixed numbers both positive
and negative are rational numbers.

Yes Ma’m

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

It is a fraction that has a rational expression either

in the numerator, denominator or both Complex Fraction
How many methods were used in simplifying complex
fraction? Two methods

In method 1, you have to invert the denominator to its

what? Reciprocal

In method 2, we multiply the numerator and

denominator to its what? We multiply it by the LCD

What is the LCD of x + 4 and x – 6? (x+4) (x-6)

Motivation

Before we proceed to our new lesson, remember that Yes, Ma’am

in your previous lessons, you were taught how to find
x, right?

Let’s play a short game again. It is called “Find your X.”

I will choose 10 representatives. Each representative
will be given a metacard. The metacards are consist of
an equation to find x and the answer. Everybody will be ( The class will choose a representative )
scattered around the room and when the music starts
you must find your x by greeting each other and solving
the equation if it matches yours. When the music
stops, you should have already found your partner and
tell the class how come you arrive with that pairing. Is
it clear? Yes, Ma’am

So, let’s begin! ( Music starts ) (Students will mix around the room to find their match)

(Music stops ) Since you already found your pairing, (Students will explain why they came up with
will you tell the class why you arrived with that pairing? such pairing)

Very good! You may now take your seats. The representatives will take their seat.

Today, we’re going to discuss equations involving

Rational Equations and how to find the value of x.

A. Activity

Our activity before I discuss the topic is that you have

to complete this table first (Show the cartolina with a
table to fill ) The first and second columns are the
values of a and b. The third and fourth columns, you
must multiply the values of a and b and simplify it. I
will give you 7 minutes to finish the task. Afterwards, I
will randomly call some of you to fill the columns.

a b a’b Simplified
Form
5 x + 1/5
12 m 1/2
3x 4/x + 4
10a 1/2a + 3/5a

Let me answer one for you. What is the value of a and The value of a and b are 5 and x +1/5
b?
In the third column, we have to multiply the value of a 5 ( x +1/5 )
and b. What does it look like if we multiply a and b?

If we multiply it, the simplified form of number one is 5x+1

what?
Yes Ma’am
Do you understand what are you going to do now?

Ok, you may now begin

(After 7 minutes ) Ok, time’s up. Let’s answer the Students will start answering the activity
activity. ( The teacher will randomly call to fill the
columns ) a b a’b Simplified
Form
5 x + 1/5 5(x+2/5) 5x+1
12 m 1/2 12(m 3/12) 12m-1
3x 4/x + 4 3x(
