Detailed Lesson Plan On Changes in Matter Science 4

The daily lesson plan describes a science lesson for 4th grade students about how the properties of materials change when exposed to different temperatures. The lesson involves students: 1) Predicting and observing how an ice cube changes when heated in an experiment. 2) Working in groups to observe how materials like crayon, chocolate, and butter change when heated and cooled, recording their observations. 3) Presenting their findings and discussing that materials change form from solid to liquid when heated and back when cooled.

I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content The learners demonstrate understanding of changes that
Standard materials undergo when exposed to certain conditions
B. Performance The learners should be able to evaluate whether changes in
Standard materials are useful or harmful to one’s environment
C. Learning Describe changes in properties of materials when exposed
Competency to certain conditions such as temperature or when mixed

 Remind the pupils about safety measures to

observe in performing the activity.

 Let the pupils do the activity by group. Tell them to

write down their observation on the second column
and their explanation on the third column of the
table.

 Have each group present their work. Check the

output of the pupils.

 Discuss the concepts about heat and temperature

learned in Grade 3 by asking the following
questions:
 What happened to the ice cube in the tin can when
it was put over the flame?
 Why did the ice cube change its form?
 When the material was heated, what can you say
about its temperature?
 When you removed the material from the flame,
what happened to the material?
 When the temperature was cooled, what can you
say about its temperature?

 To present the lesson, ask “How about other

materials class, like crayon, chocolate and butter?
What changes will happen to these materials when
they are exposed to different temperatures?
